LEADERS OF THE PACK
th
5 grade
Class of 2024
-1-
Lincoln Public Schools has adopted the McGraw Hill reading program.
Students will learn to read while considering multiple perspectives, learning
a multitude of literary skills, and gain a deep understanding of various
texts and genres.
You will have spelling words each week that tie into our reading program.
Your student will receive a new spelling list every Monday and be expected
to complete homework assignments on a regular basis. Completion of
homework is required. It also promotes life skills like responsibility,
prioritizing, and doing your best. The Spelling lists are found on our class
site www.5campbell.weebly.com.
-2-
Together we will work on learning new math skills using the Houghton
Mifflin program. We will learn to multiply and divide numbers through
hundred billions and decimals, work with precise units of measurement,
capacity, and mass. Students will also will work to manipulate data in
multiple representations and understand the basics of probability and
statistics. Students will also learn to multiple, divide, and analyze
relationships among fractions, decimals, and percentages. This is a limited
list of the concepts taught.
In Social Studies we will learn all about the Indigenous First Nations of
America, Early Explorers, the establishment of the United States, and the
influences on our colonization.
Expectations
For additional Campbell expectations, refer to the student
handbook/calendar.
Homework Policy
<Homework will be sent home almost every evening and due the next day.
Homework will usually consist of at least a math worksheet and usually
spelling. Even if there is no specific homework assigned, students are
expected to read for at least 20 minutes, and study their spelling words.
Missing assignments are unacceptable and not reflective of a responsible and
productive student.
Our class website is updated daily to show homework due.

Birthdays
Snacks or treats are not permitted at many LPS schools due to the vast
array of food allergies as well as the encouragement of healthy choices.
Instead, the students get to celebrate with their choice of activity or
game. Please refer to the Campbell handout should you have further
questions regarding this policy.
Communication
< We believe that communication between the parent, child, and teacher is a
key element in a childs education. We hope you find the packets and
information you receive helpful. We have created a class website to keep
you in the loop on homework, academics, and other notifications.
< If you need to reach us, please feel free to call the school (436-1129). We
am usually here by 8:15 AM. Email is a great way to get in touch with us.
Please make sure to include your childs name in the subject line so that we
are able to recognize your e-mail.
Building/Classroom Rules:
1. Be SAFE
2. Be RESPECTFUL
-4-
3. Be RESPONSIBLE
Discipline Policy:
Campbell is a BIST school. The Behavior Intervention Support Team
provides us with a common language and consistent procedures for
students. The goal of BIST is to help students understand and learn
missing life skills. The logistics of BIST are as follows:
The Safe Seat is a seat that is safe from distractions. It is simply a seat
where they can be relieved of the distracting or upsetting situation. We
will give a warning or ask the student to redirect their attention and focus
before asking them to go to the Safe Seat.
Should the Safe Seat not be enough support for the student, We will send
them to a Buddy Room, a neighboring 5th grade classroom where the
student does not miss out on instruction but is distant from the situation
that led them to be sent to the Safe Seat. Parent contact will be made.
Should the student need further help beyond the Buddy Room, he/she will
be escorted to the office until they are able to be successful in the
classroom.

really looking forward to working with the students, parents, and staff in the
Campbell community.
Christine Behne- This will be in tenth year teaching. This will be my third

three years respectively. My first eight years were with Omaha Public
Schools, and this will be my second year with Lincoln Public Schools. My
husband Brad and I have four children. Jessalyn will be a freshman. Trenton
and Ethan are in middle school. Alisyn is in 4th grade. This summer was filled
with swimming, baseball, and camps. We took a vacation to Gills Rock,
Wisconsin, at the end of June. We had a cabin and enjoyed fishing. My
husband Brad works at Davis Design and will graduate from UNL with his
Masters Degree in August.
