Variation of plant in different environment

Introduction:
Variation, in biology, any difference between cells, individual organisms, or
groups of organisms of any species caused either by genetic differences (genotypic
variation) or by the effect of environmental factors on the expression of the genetic
potentials (phenotypic variation). Variation may be shown in physical appearance,
metabolism, fertility, mode of reproduction, behaviour, learning and mental ability, and
other obvious or measurable characters.
Environmentally caused variations may result from one factor or the combined
effects of several factors, such as climate, food supply, and actions of other organisms.
Phenotypic variations also include stages in an organisms life cycle and seasonal
variations in an individual. These variations do not involve any hereditary alteration and
in general are not transmitted to future generations; consequently, they are not significant
in the process of evolution.
Objectives:
1. Identify the variation in the same species but different location
2. Identify the variation in the population but different location
3. Explain if theres a variation of the species in different location

Materials
1. Meter stick/or any measuring device at least one meter long
2. Rope
3. Record note
4. Camera
Safety
Wear proper clothes in conducting the ocular observation
Observe the area for any possible danger
Procedures:
1. Select one same type of species but different location
2. Take some photos for the proper documentation
3. Identify the variation of that certain species
4. Select 1x1 meter area (Variation within the population)
5. Take some photos for the prohttps://scontent.fmnl4-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t34.012/13608137_1036490353054639_1646437502_n.jpg?
oh=a3920a355b0403299b37ea11cd6b5827&oe=577B3023per documentation
6. Identify the variation of that population

Elephant ear plant

Colocasia esculenta
(Near at Rice field)

Elephant ear plant

Colocasia esculenta
(Near at slope of the mountain)

Variation within species

Variation in size
C.esculaenta near at the rice field have a bigger in size , it measured about 1.45 meters in height, it is
much bigger because the location of the plant have a few competitors in the absorption of nutrients
thats why the C.esculenta have bigger in size
C.esculaenta near at the slope of the mountain have smaller in size, it measured about 65 centimeter in
height, it is because it located in place where C.esculenta only expose in sunlight during afternoon. And
also because in this area C.esculenta have more competitors in absortion of nutrient and because of that
the growth of the plant are affected.
Variation in color
C.esculaenta near at the rice field have a much green in color its because it is much expose to the
sunlight
C.esculenta near at the slope of the mountain have light green in color because they cannot absorb
enough sunlight.
Variation in texture
C.esculaenta near at the rice field has a smooth surface unlike the C.esculenta near at the slope of the
mountain that much smoother surface in leaves.
Variation in number/population
C.esculaenta near at the rice field, the population was high many species of C.esculenta grow while
C.esculenta near at the slope of the mountain, the population in was low few species of C.esculenta
grow

Cassava Plant
Colocasia esculenta

Variation within population

Variation in size
Some of the species found in that area have different in size some are taller but the same species, some
have a smaller in size that can tell that it have variation in size in terms of height.
Variation in color
It have different color in that population because some of the plant have light green while the others
have much green and the other are green, that certain population have variation in terms of color
Variation in structure
The structure of the plant vary because some have a stem while the others dont have
Variation in genetic content
All plant in that area have unique genetic material that the others have, thats why they dont have the
same appearance even if they have the same type of species.
Variation in capacity of storage
In that area cassava only can have a capacity in storage of excess nutrients while the others they release
the excess nutrients through perspiration.
