Station 1: Series Circuits

1. Build the following circuit. You only need to build one even
though the example shows both a picture and a technical
drawing.

Station 2: Parallel Circuit

1. Build the following circuit. You only need to build one even
though the example shows both a picture and a technical
drawing.

2. What do you observe about the strength of the light bulbs

glow?
3. What happens when you unscrew (or disconnect) ONE of the
light bulbs?
4. What does this tell you about the PATH that the electrons are
following in this circuit?
5. If you have extra time, experiment with disconnecting other
parts of the circuit to see if the bulb(s) will stay lit.
6. CLEAN UP: Disconnect ALL parts and CAREFULLY return
them to the bin or bag that they started in.

Station 3: Switches
1. Build the following circuit with a switch. Be sure you place the
brads close enough together in the cardboard for the paperclip
to reach both of them.

Station 4: Motors
1. Experiment with the items provided to achieve specific goals.
Goal 1: Make the motor come on
How did you build it? (draw a diagram)

Goal 2: Make a propeller spin

How did you build it? (draw a diagram)

2. What happens when you move the paper clip away from one
of the brads?
3. What does this tell you about the PATH that the electrons are
following in this circuit?
4. What real world feature in EVERY room with electricity does
this model simulate?
5. Adjust this circuit to include 2 light bulbs and illustrate your
design. Does the switch still work?
6. CLEAN UP: Disconnect ALL parts and CAREFULLY return
them to the bin or bag that they started in.

Goal 3: Create an on/off switch for the propeller.

How did you build it? (draw a diagram)

2. How is making a motor work similar to lighting and light

bulb?

3. How many batteries were necessary to make the motor work?

4. CLEAN UP: Disconnect ALL parts and CAREFULLY return

them to the bin or bag that they started in.

Station 5: Mystery Card

1. Take a close look at the mystery card. 2 of the hole punches in
the card are connected and could complete a circuit.

2. Design an open circuit you could use to test and see which
holes are connected. Draw a picture of your test circuit.

3. Test the card.

4. Which 2 holes are connected?

5. How do you know that touching the foil in those 2 holes

completes the circuit?

6. How do you think your teacher made the mystery card?

7. CLEAN UP: Disconnect ALL parts and CAREFULLY return

them to the bin or bag that they started in.
