B. Abstract
For my community Engagement Experiential Education Project I will be
providing community services to my local high school lacrosse team. I will be
focusing on the kids to make sure they understand the idea of being a team. I will
go over the fundamentals of lacrosse and start from the basics and work my way up
to the importance of playing for each other. Ive always wanted to be a coach and I
think this will be the perfect opportunity for me to try and give it a shot. I love to be
around kids and especially teach them when I know the program doesnt work with
kids individually a whole lot. I will be teaching a lacrosse camp at Alhambra high
school in Martinez California, it is where I attended high school and was a part of the
varsity team for all four years. One day I would really like to become a head coach
of a division 1 lacrosse team, its been my dream ever since I first played lacrosse. I
understand I cant just join a coaching staff and expect to be a head coach I need
some experience first. I think this would be the perfect community activity to put on
my resume.

C. Project Details
1. Explain how the project connects with your personal motivations and career
aspirations.
The project connects with my personal motivations and career path a lot, for
example I want to one day coach a Division 1 lacrosse team. In order to do
that I will need to start with some experience and not just playing I will need
to see the game from the sideline and study it. Doing this community project
will definitely help me with a start on how to act and approach a new team. I
love to help kids and educate them on something they love.
2. Explain how the project ties in with concepts of community engagement.

This project ties in with concepts of community engagement by helping kids

understand the importance of a team. A two day camp I will be able to get
across of a lot of main points of lacrosse but more importantly how to be a
good team. I get joy from helping people and graduating from this high
school really makes me want to help them a lot.

5. Explain how your personal strengths will help you complete your project.
My personal strengths will help me more than ever to complete this project,
for example I am on a good functioning college team right now. Seeing how
my football coaches treat us and educate us up gives me a clear idea of how
to present myself to the kids. I will use what I remember I learned in high
school and apply it to the camp. I want to teach the kids things I wish I got
taught when I was their age.
6. Explain how you will overcome your personal weaknesses and outside threats
to complete your project
I will overcome my weaknesses by softening up on the kids while Im there. I
know I am at a collegiate level of football and the kids are playing lacrosse for
fun. So I cant coach the kids up like my coaches do to me. I will not yell or
get frustrated, I will simply encourage kids to work harder and hopefully what
I apply to their time will stick to them. I will not let outside threats affect me
at all. I will overcome adversity just like I always do by remaining calm and
thinking of a plan B.
