ACCEPTANCE SPEECH OF DR. NELSON S.

ABELEDA
PCDEB President for School Year 2010-2011

GOOD EVENING fellow Deans and Educators in business and all our
guests.

It is indeed a great honor for me and my school, The University of Manila

(UM) to be elected as President of this prestigious organization, The Philippine
Council of Deans and Educators in Business (PCDEB). For this reason, I am
thankful to all the directors who voted for me. I wish to assure them and all the
members that I will live up to their expectations. As I assume the presidency of this
organization, I am accepting the challenges as well as the responsibilities imposed
on me. I feel confident that together with the board members and officers, we can
realize the vision and mission of this organization.

PCDEB has gone a long way since its inception nine (9) years ago and I
would like to attribute the growth and success of this organization to the
determination and dedication of all the past Presidents and officers.

I would like therefore to pay tribute to all the past presidents, some of them
are here with us tonight. Unfortunately, the founding President, Dr. Conrado
Iñigo, Jr., from the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) is indisposed
hence he cannot attend this induction ceremony. He was the President for the first
and second year of this organization. The third President was Dean Carlos R.H
Magno, from the De La Salle University, (DLSU) Dasmariñas, Cavite; the fourth
President was Dean Raul C. Addatu, from the Philippine School of Business
Administration, (PSBA) Quezon City; the fifth President was Dean Jose Ma. S.E.
Gonzales, from the Philippine Women’s University, (PWU) Manila; the sixth
President was Dean Ma. Flordeliza L. Anastacio, from the Centro Escolar
University (CEU); The seventh President was Dean Victor C. Manabat, from the
Saint Michael’s College of Laguna (SMC); and the Eight President (the outgoing
President) is Dean Felix E. Asprer, from the Philippine Women’s University
(PWU) , Quezon City. All of them are now members of the council of elders of
this organization.

I wish to assure these people that I will reinvigorate, revitalize and reinforce
the legacies they have left. Also I will continue to pursue more vigorously all
projects initiated by my predecessors.

Briefly, I would like to share with you some my dreams and plans for the
PCDEB during my term as follows:

1. We will try to come out quarterly, a news letter where all the important
activities of member schools and professional articles can be published.
2. We will establish more linkages with the different industries for the “On
the Job Training” (OJT) of our students.
3. “All work no play makes a teacher dull”. We will re- organize sports
program for all the members. We shall revive the annual bowling
tournament for all the member-schools.
4. We shall endeavor to prepare the model syllabi for all business subjects
in accordance with the recommendations made by our partners in the
different industries during our convention last March, 2010.
5. We will sponsor seminars for our members for their professional growth
and advancement. Consequently, we will apply for accreditation from the
Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) to be one of
their accredited Continuing Professional Education (CPE) providers.
6. We will organize an educational tour outside the Philippines in sometime
in December. PCDEB has a linkage with the Association of Universities
of Asia and the Pacific represented by Dr. Marlon Padilla, the Philippine
coordinator, who can arrange for this tour.
7. For schools offering 5-year Accountancy Program, PCDEB can provide
seasoned CPA Reviewers who can handle the comprehensive CPA
review during the fifth year of the program.
8. PCDEB will establish linkages with the different CPA Review Schools
so that students of member-schools can be given big discount.

All these and more, we hope to accomplish during my term with the help,
support and cooperation of all the officers and members.

Finally, for all our guests who are not yet members of our organization, I
invite you to join us and together let us contribute to the upliftment of the standard
of business education in the Philippines. Let us be globally competitive. Let us
make PCDEB more relevant to the call of the time.

Thank you again and tonight, let’s have a fellowship with one another.
