For both, muscular and aerobic, types of exercise, a gamified system should encourage

employees to:
1. Do the exercises regularly hence making it sustainable. As said by psychologists, if you pursue
some task for 66 days it becomes a habit.
2. Avoid over exercising, which might lead to other health problems and hence increase city
health costs.
The program will be implemented by using a city-wide fitness scheme that uses a website to track
progress and to issue rewards. Every time employees do either type of exercise, they earn kudos
say 10 kudos for everyday exercise. Now for the sustainability reason we will have to increase
these points on every continuous number of days the exercise is done. So for example, if they
exercise each day, they will be rewarded 10 kudos, then 20 kudos, then 30 and so on. But if they
break the chain, they go back to earning 10 kudos per day. The 66 days habit can be made by
giving, instead of 660 kudos, 6600 kudos if a person reaches 66 continuous days of exercise. All
the kudos will reset once reaching this 6600 mark. Now this is the kudos distribution framework.
To encourage employees to actually use the system, a small tax break or cash reward could be
issued if they reach a number of kudos say 30,000. Now to give healthy competition to the
employees, a leaderboard will feature the most active team and personalized leaderboard will
track individuals with similar health condition. Badges (Non Tangible Status) like Health Star, Mr.
Fit-Keep can be given to top performer on leaderboard. These badges can also be given as
certificates with verbal appreciation and praise (offline). An internal Forum or blog will be
developed to answer all health related questions and queries of city employees. The employees
can rate and up-votes answers in a stack-overflow like model. Employees with most votes will
be given badges like Health Guru, Fitness Monk. Additionally the winning team will get a trophy
as Performance contingent reward for completing all the task and challenges with maximum
efficiency. To make this more competitive the trophy can be given on revolving basis to the Best
City Team of the month. These are all extrinsic motivators.
But people can login their data just for sake of kudos, to avoid that we need some intrinsic
motivation. The website will have an algae which will be minuscule in the start and as the person
enters kudos it grows not just health wise as well as becomes brighter and earn some algae
friends. The government could offer to donate money to a NGOs of employee's choice or install
new arts around the city if they collect 40,000 kudos. The system could also calculate how much
gas/petrol was saved by not using a car if they walk to work or run to the store/shops and this
could be displayed in terms of the greenery increasing in their algaes home or an eco walker
badge can be issued.
