Brochure
Title: Brochure
Description: A brochure for students who are poor and cannot afford a
nice trip have the opportunity with this program to do so.
Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator
Date: 9 July 2016
Course: COMM 130
Instructor: Brother Pingel
Objectives: Creating an original new logo and using it in a brochure,
creating a two sided document, use adobe Photoshop to cut out an
image and using the text wrap in Adobe InDesign. Using body copy to
draw in an audience and incorporating a complete color scheme.
Process:
This was probably my best work. I really tried to incorporate images
that had people in them so that my audience could see real people in
the brochure. I made sure that the images I chose all followed the color
scheme I had chosen, which was tetradic with indigo, gold, red, and
green. I think the images showed up really nicely. In one of my critiques,
someone mentioned that my front flap of my brochure seemed a little
less exciting than the rest of it.
I had really good feedback on this project. Another critic said that my
logo really brought my color scheme together and fit the brochure well.
She had also mentioned that one of my images was squished and I could
have gotten in serious trouble for a squished image.
Overall, my favorite part of this project was choosing fonts. My theme
was adventure, and I really had a good time looking for fun fonts.

Letterhead
Title: Letterhead Project
Description: Creating a letterhead for a real or fictitious business
Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign
Date: 10 June 2016
Course: COMM 130
Instructor: Brother Pingel
Objectives: Creating a new logo and incorporating it with a business and
using all information to reach the desired audience, use a complete color
scheme and make sure to include all details, keeping any watermarks
light
Process: I really enjoyed this project a great deal. I was nervous about
creating a new logo, I think I really stepped out of my comfort zone and
created the Phoenix logo for the company. I think it turned out nicely
with the little experience I have with Adobe Illustrator.
Everyone that I critiqued with said that they liked my logo and that it
really achieved its purpose. The dots on this letterhead really draw the
eye over to the right place. I think that the watermark also turned out
how I wanted it to be.

Business Card
Title: Phoenix Software Company business card
Description: Creating a business card to accompany the letterhead.
Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign
Date: 10 June 2016
Course: COMM 130
Instructor: Brother Pingel
Objectives: Using Adobe Illustrator to create a new logo, Use a complete
color scheme in the design and include all contact information on the
business card as well as some other design element.
Process: The logo was the hardest part of the project. I wanted
something that would draw attention, but I wanted the attention to be
mostly on the logo.
When I was creating the logo, I drew out a perfect circle and cut the edge
off kind of like the shape of an orange slice or the shape of part of the
moon. I then copied that shape 5 or 6 times and organized them around
the circle.
That was something I really wanted to emphasize.
I used the gray as a background because I remember Brother Pingel
saying in class that gray is our friend and that stuck out to me. I also
thought that having a white background would be too bland for this
design.

Montage
Title: .Montage
Description: Create a blend of images into one
Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop
Date: 28 May 2016
Course: COMM 130
Instructor: Brother Pingel
Objectives: Learn to blend two or more images together, use a complete
color scheme, find a consistent spiritual theme using quality images,
and use legible body copy
Process: I have never used the masking tool or the brush tool in
Photoshop before this project. I knew which images I wanted to use and
the message I wanted to convey. The third image (the one with the filter)
is the last thing I added to this project.
My color scheme was tetradic, red, green, blue, and orange.
There were a lot of principles I wanted to incorporate into this design and
I think that it worked, for the most part. Something I really learned about
was playing around with the opacity on the mask and seeing what a big
difference it made when I was trying to blend my images together. I think
that my message came through really nicely and powerfully. God is in all
things and all things in this image are the forest and the sky. He is in
them in this project and I think I achieved some of my best work in this
project.

Web Page
Title: Web Page Project
Description: Create a web page showcasing one of my logos and the
design process I used to create it.
Programs Used: CSS text wrangler
Date: 24 June 2016
Course: COMM 130
Instructor: Brother Pingel
Objectives: Link an HTML and CSS styling sheet together to create a
web page based on a template. Use the design elements such as color,
proximity, alignment, based on the acquired knowledge of HTML and CSS
coding.
Process: I code for a living, so I thought that this project was going to be
a breeze for me. I was wrong. I know HTML like the back of my hand, but
I was a little unfamiliar with CSS so it was definitely a challenge. I think
that I got a little ahead of myself with that. I really tried to incorporate
my color scheme throughout the entire page to create a cohesive
message to my audience. Unfortunately I couldnt do a lot with that
logo as far as a background or transparent background, but I think my
audience would understand the simplicity of the page. I centered my logo
because it was just more visually appealing in the center rather than on
the left. It made the entire page have a good hierarchy.

Photodesign
Title: Photodesign project
Description: Create a photodesign project using Photoshop that changes
the image and has a message.
Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop
Date: 20 May 2016
Course: COMM 130
Instructor: Brother Pingel
Objectives: Use a quality digital camera to take an image that matches
the complete color scheme that was chosen for this project. Use
the image alterations settings in Adobe Photoshop to change hues,
saturation, selective color, etc. Use layers to design text, and have a
color swatch of the complete color scheme that was chosen.
Process: Before starting this project, I had absolutely no experience in
Adobe Photoshop. Considering my instructor moves extremely quickly
while giving examples, I felt a little under the weather about this.
This project took my about 5 hours to complete because I was so
inexperienced and I was constantly asking the Lab assistants for help.
I knew what I wanted to do with the project, and I did exactly that. By
filling the background with what is supposed to look like leaves, I gave
the project a cohesive theme of green, growing things. After making
corrections from critiques, I think I really learned a lot about Photoshop.

Flier
Title: Flier
Description: Create a flier for a Graduate Leadership Conference with
the so far acquired knowledge of the FOCUS process and the Adobe
programs.
Programs Used: Adobe InDesign
Date: 7 May 2016
Course: COMM 130
Instructor: Brother Pingel
Objectives: Create a colorless flier that showcases the FOCUS process
and design elements. Use appropriate typography and use the provided
high quality images given in the course. Create a project folder for the
things that are used in this project.
Process: This project was the very first thing I had ever done in Adobe
InDesign. Never before had I done anything like this and let me say I
was utterly and completely lost at the beginning. It was easy to get
frustrated with myself and lose track of the big picture, but I think
overall for the first project it wasnt too bad.
It was a little difficult not being able to incorporate color and relying
solely on hierarchy and where the audiences eyes will go first (which is
either an image or text that is large). Overall, I think that I had all the right
ideas in mind for this project and that I was able to execute them to the
best of my abilities at the time.

Logos
Title: Logos Project
Description: Create an original logo for a real or fictitious company using
Adobe Illustrator
Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator
Date: 4June 2016
Course: COMM 130
Instructor: Brother Pingel
Objectives: Create an original logo that is not based off of any other
existing logos, and create 3 (one in color, one gray scale, and one
surrounded by a color box) Use an appropriate and complete color
scheme.
Process: Before this project, I had never even heard of Adobe illustrator,
and it didnt help that there was no class that Monday so we had no
instruction or demonstration as to where to start. This really took a toll
on my project. I was doing work more to get it done rather than actually
creating a good logo. Neither was I aware of a vector tool that could have
made this project a lot better.
Nonetheless, I remember growing up and asking my dad if he ever
started a business in Physical Therapy what he would call it, and he said
Advanced Performance; and thats why I decided to create this logo for
him. I tried to really focus on the logo which was one of my faults, but I
overcame that with the design I had and the eye drawing arrow that is
incorporated.

Event Ad
Title: Event Ad
Description: Create an Ad for an Event and include all necessary
information for that event.
Programs Used: Microsoft Word
Date: 14 May 2016
Course: COMM 130
Instructor: Brother Pingel
Objectives: Find and scan a high quality image that fits a complete color
scheme that was chosen. Use principles of color to incorporate all colors
into design using Microsoft Word 11. Understand image sizing and pixels
with Microsoft Word and this is the first project that a full bleed was
required.
Process: This was the second project that we did as a class. It was a
little relieving after not having any idea how to use Adobe InDesign=n
to a Microsoft program that I used all through middle school and high
school. That was a nice shift, since Brother Pingel mentioned that not all
businesses can afford the Adobe programs.
My audience was those who wanted to get rid of old toys, and so I tried
to use a childish design, by using elementary shapes. I struggled with a
color scheme on this because my I chose my image before I chose the
color scheme; but I learned from it and tried to have other strengths to
this design such as the typography and overall flow.
