APMC-SN STRAW School Representative
The APMC-SN STRAW Representatives are responsible for coordinating services for the
students, providing informal counselling and supervising the implementation of Magna Carta of Medical
Students in their own schools.
The APMC-SN STRAW Representatives advocate the rights and welfares of their schools
student body. With the Magna Carta of Medical Students, a STRAW Representative is to protect these
rights of the students and to the college, working hand-in-hand with APMC-SN in coordination with
APMC-FI. This position will assess, implement, and oversee the students rights and welfare that needs
intervention.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities including, but not limited to:


1. Assessment

Work with student/s to promote discussion of the students experiences; encouraging


students to speak openly about events where their rights are violated and serve to reduce
their sense of inferiority allowing them to begin emotional healing.
Assess each student or case referred to the committee for needs, support, and identify level
of case severity.

2. Planning and Intervention

Develop security plan of student, academically and institutionally.


Prepare and provide intervention for students through groups using a structure of
discussion about case process.
Conduct case management activities such as conflict management, protection of rights and
welfare and provide crisis intervention to the student body and/or university.
Provide counselling, encouragement, and enrichment activities for students in ways that will
enhance their rights and improve their potential for healthy psychological adjustment. Meet
regularly with students to provide emotional support.
Act as an advocate for student body. This may include education, legal counselling, public
assistance, or other services for their rights and welfare.
Develop plan for resolution by meeting with the student/s (victim/defense) or as needed to
monitor and record all case related documents, for planning and referral.

3. Working with APMC-SN STRAW Committee

Work with APMC-SN STRAW National and Regional Committee to identify violated rights
and to provide additional support.
Refer all cases and right violations, disasters, and other crisis that affects students welfare
to the Regional, or if not available, National APMC-SN STRAW chairperson.
Develop and coordinate plans with APMC-SN for cases that are not resolved within the
school administration, and in need of external support.
Refer student to the APMC-SN executive board to be raised to APMC-FI to provide needed
services, if necessary.
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
