Microsoft Word

Objective:
Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together)
Find, scan and import a high-quality image.
Create a full-bleed design.
Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your message and audience.
Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe programs, including Photoshop.
Description: This document is an advertisement for the Ford Extravaganza Antique Car Show Event. This event is
sponsored by Ford and all proceeds will be donated to St.Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
Process
(Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): I used Microsoft Word to formulate an advertisement to display
a message that is clear and easy to grasp with a quick glance. I wanted to design something that would attract
attention and was simple, but not child like or silly. I inserted shapes, pictures and text to create a message that
could be understood by the visual or text by themselves. However, by putting the two together, I created a whole
and unified message. I scanned a picture that I took from a book in the library and incorporated that into my
flier. I also edited the layout and added color variation to create a pleasing color scheme that unifed all of the
elements.

Objective :
Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page so the long side is 300 500 pixels.
Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. (Minimum of 200 words. Include rationale for colors, appeal to target audience, design skills, etc,)
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. (Include all required tags Doctype (provided), html, head, title,
meta charset (provided), body, h1, h2, p, ol or ul (with li tags), img, br, and a link to blog)
Acquire a working knowledge of CSS. (Customize the provided CSS provided to format the HTML to complement the logo design. Change at least the following: The h1 text color & h1 background color, font colors for
the paragraphs & list items, the background color, font families and add at least one css comment.)
Identify hex colors to match logo, using Photoshop color picker.
Open the HTML page in a web browser and capture a quality screen shot with .5 inch margins for printing.
Description: For this project I designed a web page based on the logo I created.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): For this project I used HTML and CSS to create my own web page. In order to
do this, I used an application that allowed me to format, structure and design the overall look of my page. I used
the logo I created in InDesign for my page. First, I saved the image so that it could be inserted properly into my
webpage. I used Html to insert the text and format them into paragraphs and heading text. I used Photoshop to
select the colors that I used for my logo in order to incorporate them into my page. I used CSS to eliminate the
border that was around the heading text and round the edges of the box. I also used InDesign to create a background for my page which added unity and repetition to the overall design. Finally, I used the InDesign program
to create an icon image for my HTML.

Objective:
Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign.
Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Do not imitate existing logos or use previous designs.
Dont use photos or live trace.
Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Photos are okay on business
card and letterhead as additional design elements. Letterhead should be 8.5 x 11, full-bleed optional, but trim
only .125. Business card should be 3.5 x 2 and printed above center on a vertical page.
Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.
Keep designs simple with light watermarks and drop shadows and plenty of white space.
Include contact information: name, address, phone, website, and email on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or
spaces in phone number; no parentheses/ hyphens.
Description: Project Six Stationary and Business Card. For this project I revised my original logo and created a business card and stationary paper as though I was designing it for a real company.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I used the Adobe Illustrator for this project. This was a tricky project that required
many different tools to create. I used the pen tool to create the lines and swirls in the chandelier. I used to the
width tool to manipulate with width of the strokes and swirls in the design. The direct selection tool allowed me to
manipulate the different points and anchors. I used the ellipse tool to add elements of shape into my design, the
tear-shaped crystals on the chandelier were made with the shape creator tool. I also used the pathfinder tool and
the rectangle tool to cut my design in half. After I cut my design in half I inserted a text box with the name of my
company, I believe this unified my design and made the chandelier text the focal point of the design. using the
rounded rectangle tool once again, I created a black box with rounded edges for the shape of the business card. I
used the line segment tool to make a white line on both sides of the business card which is add a unique and professional element of repetition. For the stationary, I changed the opacity of the chandelier to three percent to create a
light water mark on the page and then I made my name bigger to create a more noticeable contrast.

Objective:
Use the FOCUS design process with strong focal point and flow
Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant spiritual message
Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks
Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elements
Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image
Apply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scripturesyour choice)
Format type: Legibility; Small copy & Title with varying text size. Theme word(s)
Select good quality image
Description: Project four Montage- For this project I created a montage with a spiritually uplifting message. I
blended three photographs together to create a unified and delicate montage.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, Steps taken while designing): To begin, I found three different photographs
and a quote. I used the Photoshop program to blend the photographs together. The background photo I used is a
picture of a field illuminated by soft rays light. I used the crop tool to place the young woman on top of the existing picture, then I used the masking tool to soften the edges and increase the opacity of the top layer . The third
image, which was of clouds, I blurred into the other two layers, leaving streaks of light more obvious than than
the clouds themselves. Finally, I added the text , which I played around with for quite some time. I chose a lower
level of opacity for the quote and I also added a soft glow for an angelic effect. For the Thomas S. Monsontext, I
chose a higher opacity and added a drop shadow to the text.

Objective:
Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.
Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure.
Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at least four quality images, not including the logo. One should be
clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape of the image.
Write at least 250 words of original copy in at least three paragraphs, headers, and subheaders.
Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.
Description: For the P8 Brochure Project I designed my own broshure and created an entirely new logo for a
company or business of my choice.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): For this project I used three different programs. I used InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. In illustrator I created my logo, I used the pen tool to create the roof top of the cabin in my logo and I used the typography tool to create the scripted text. In Photoshop I edited my image
of the resort. I used to lasso tool to cut around the original image and then I feathered and softened the
edges. Most of my project was created in InDesign, I used the program to create the layout for my brochure. I used the layering tool so I could insert text, images, background images and even my logo. I
used the text wrapping tool which allowed me to shape my text around two of my images. Finally, I created a text box with a lower opacity so that I could use it as a background for the name of the resort.

Objective:
Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.
Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.
Retrieve image and logo from links on this page.
Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links in InDesign intact.
Description: I created a flier using the InDesign program that advertsies the annual Graduates Conference
organized by Vouant Communications
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): For this flier design I used the Adobe Indesign program. I
played with layouts, fonts, hues and shapes to design a filer that would be appropriate for the intended audience. All of the elements together create a mature, unified style that attracts positive attention. I decided to
create a very organized and structured design. There is repetition in shape, color and decorative elements that
add to the eye-catching, but professional, ascetics of the overall design.

Objective:
Learn basic photography skills.
Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then incorporate the colors into the layout.
Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.
Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.)
Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.511 page layout.
Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.
Print with full-bleed margins. Trim only 1/8 (0.125) from all four sides.
Description: Project three photo design. For this project, I created a poster with my own chosen color scheme.
The purpose of this project was for me to unlock my Photoshop skills as well as apply all of the focus principles
into my design that would attract the attention of a company looking to hire.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): Layers are key. For this project I used lots of layers in order
to incorporate many unique and catching elements into my design. I focused primarily on a analogous color
scheme that included green, blue and yellow . After hours of fiddling with all of the different tools, layers and
effects, I learned how to manipulate the hue and saturation of my colors as well as give them more definition and
contrast. I used a picture that I had taken at Porter Park for this project. Using Photoshop I edited my image to
improve the look and feel that would eventually be the base for my design.
