MONTAGE
Description:

This is a montage design of two pictures blended together with the use of
typography to create an inspirational message.

Programs:

ADOBE Photoshop

Date:

May 29th, 2016

Course & Section:

COMM 130, Section 8

Instructor:

Professor Lefevre

Objective:

I wanted to convey a message that was inspirational in reminding the audience

that each and every individual is important, and even though we may feel small
and insignificant, we are important.
Audience: Creative young adults who are working their way through life, and trying
to define more purpose within themselves.

Process:

I downloaded the two images off of Google, and then I opened Photoshop and set
the background to be 8.5 by 11.
I then drag and dropped the image of the girl and added a mask layer on top of
her. I then did a drag and drop of the stars image on top of the mask layer of the
girl. I also added a mask over the top of the stars image.
With black paint and a 100% opacity, soft-edged brush, I painted away the hard
image edges.
With the brush tool set to black. I changed the opacity to 10% an started to slowly
take away the density of the stars layer.
After I gradually blended the photo, I added the Pin Light effect over the top of
the star image mask.
I then added the typography. I used Helvetica Neue Light for all the typography in
the design, and varied the size of the font.
I also adjusted the level of contrast on the photo and made the image a tad darker. I also adjusted the color levels to create a specific color scheme.

LOGO
Description:

These are Logos designed for a Long boarding company called Kuborra.

Programs:

Adobe Illustrator

Course & Section:

COMM 130, Section 8

Instructor:

Professor Lefevre

Objective:

The objective of this design is to promote and advertise the company Kuborra long
board shack as a place for long boarders to obtain their sporting goods.

Process:

The process of creating this design started when I started sketching my ideas out
on paper. I decided to come up with a long boarding logo. I then used the program
Adobe Illustrator and began by bending a solid line that was drawn with the line
segment tool. I then curved the right side of the line upward (like the tail of a board).
After that, I changed the brush definition to create the shape quality that the line
holds. I simply created two circles and made the lines bold to resemble a long board
wheel. I aligned the wheels and added the text to the design. I used two contrasting
san-serif fonts between the board, and then aligned the text with the wheels and
then the final word with the middle of the other two words above it. I then changed
a lot from my original design and made the (Split Complimentary) color scheme
more predominate within the design. The last step I took was to make the three
different styles normal colors, gray scale, and light over dark background.

PHOTO DESIGN
Description:

A photo designed to demonstrate good photography and color coordination with

editing on the Adobe Photoshop program.

COMM 130, Section 8

Instructor:

Professor Lefevre

Objective:

The objective of this design is simple. It is to encourage people to follow their

passions and live life to the fullest. The colors I choose were also to help the image
flow to help the audience get that vibe.

Process:

I began the process of my design by taking a the picture shown above. When I took
the photo, it was very overcast and a bit ugly outside, but the sky provided the perfect
lighting. I opened up Photoshop and pasted a color wheel, and I then started editing
by changing the value to make the image lighter, the vibrancy to bring out the color,
color settings to make sure the fertilizer (not sand) had the yellow look that I saw
when I took the photo, and the sharpness. to make the car stand out a little bit. I then
took the magnet-lasso tool and cut out around the mountain of fertilizer, then I took
and made the background black. With the brush tool I blended the darkness into the
image to make it look like the photo was taken in the dark, but that the image has a
wide contrast display. After that I put in a cool saying that I thought of and designed
it to make the color scheme. I then added the color swatches and made some last
touch-ups to the overall design.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Description:

These are a few pictures that were taken to practice and show the different types of
photography rules that can be applied to create a great image.

Professor Lefevre

Objective:

The objective of this project is to show the different types of photography techniques
that can be used for variety of different photos.

Process:

I started the process of taking photos with a simple 14MP digital camera. I took a
picure of the Taylor building out in broad daylight. I also took a picture inside of the
library to show the difference between the natural light from outside, and light that
is produced inside. I took two pictures of a watch on a table with a backpack located
behind to show my ability with using the focus tecqnique. The last series of photos
were taken to show my ability to use the rule of thirds in my project. With all these
photos I uploaded them to Adobe Photoshop and did some small edits with the color
settings, sharpness settings, and the contrasting settings to make the images look
better.

Objective:

The objective of this event ad is to promote the support of our troops. It shows
that people can help by sending help (goodies) to the troops. They can also
participate in this event by helping assemble the care packages.

Process:

I first started this project by scanning this image out of a Marines magazine. I
then opened up a new Word document and put it into publisher mode. I then
imported the scanned image and assorted the text to fit the design. I then put a
few transparent boxes under the text to make it easier to read. This was a very
simple project to complete.

July 14th from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Come to the Methodist Church located at
487 Harvard Ave, Fresno CA to help
assemble care packages for our Troops!

For every $1.00 donated we send a care package to one of our Soldiers!

FLIER
Description:

This is a black and white Flier created to encourage graduating seniors to participate in a leadership program.

Programs:

ADOBE InDesign

Date:

May 7th, 2016

Course & Section:

COMM 130, Section 8

Instructor:

Professor Lefevre

Objective:

The objective of my flier was directed toward the graduates that would like to have
the competitive edge in business, and that by attending the conference, would be
able to gain valuable skills.

Process:

I started out my project by sketching designs I could possibly use. I then started
to form my design on InDesign. The tools I used were pretty basic, but I used the
scissor tool to cut out the curve In the Flier. I also us a couple of gradients to try and
contrast the image more. I made sure there was alignment, and that their was a
good flow to the image. I needed more white space, so I ended up shrinking the text
up/ I then ended the process by matching the fonts, and making sure everything
was in good order. The focus principles I really used was the contrast. I also wanted
the typography to be sleek and professional looking to help get my message across.

BUSINESS
CARD
Description:

Business card designed with a logo that I created for a made-up racquetball court company called Kross.

Programs:

ADOBE Illustrator & InDesign

Date:

June 12th, 2016

Course & Section:

COMM 130, Section 8

Instructor:

Professor Lefevre

Objective:

The sporting company Kross is exclusively for racquetball players. The K logo depicts/
resembles a blue racquetball flying and bouncing off of a wall. It forms the K for the
brand Kross. The message is mainly to attract sports men and women who play this
sport, and that are looking for courts to play at.

Process:

I first started by opening up Adobe Illustrator to start making my logo. I changed the art
board to fit the logo that needed to be designed on a 3.5 by 2 area. I then made two
3.5 by 2 rectangles, and with the Add point pen tool, I added tqo points on the upper
corner of the card. I then deleted the corner to make the card look the way it does so
that it also relates to the over all message. I started on the design by creating 3 long
rectangles and a small circle so that I could move them together to form the K logo for
Kross. I pointed one of the rectangle edges by taking away one of the corners. I chose
the color scheme to be complimentary orange and blue because racquet balls usually
have a blue color to them. After adding the color. I then filled the front of the card with
a black background. I made a mirror image of the card and then wrote on the back the
information with two contrasting fonts. I also repeated the logo in the bottom left corner
so that it would align with the website on the right side.

who play this sport, and that are looking for courts to play at.

Process:

For the page design, I simply crossed over the information that was provided on
the back of the card, and then I placed it at the head of the page. I did add some
repeating design elements that were included on the business cards. I filled the top
corner and cut it with color to resemble part of what was included on the cards.
I kept the same colors that were used on the business cards also. I copied over the
K design and changed the opacity to 15%. I also changed opacity on the upper
corner to 57%. I finished by simply adding a line with the line tool to separate the
text and keep it as a header.

WEB PAGE
Description:

A web page designed to display and explain the process of how this long boarding
logo was created.

Programs:

TextWrangler & Photoshop

Date:

June 26th, 2016

Course & Section:

COMM 130, Section 8

Instructor:

Professor Lefevre

Objective:

The logo for the company Kuborra Longboard Shack is designed to portray the
message that it is a place where you can pick up all your long boarding supporting
supplys.

Process:

I created the format of this web page by using a program called TextWrangler. This
was my first time ever creating anything with writing HTML/CSS.
After I labeled the page and content inside, I inserted my Logo image and attached
it to the HTML document on TextWrangler. I wrote a word document full of all the
information that would fill my website, so that I could simply copy and paste it
into the HTML sheet. I also had a pre-made CSS document attached to my HTML
that I used to start implementing concepts of my design through the CSS code. I
then began to alter the colors of the web page to match my logo. I had to recenter
my image because it was hanging off to the left, so I went down to the body part
where it included the image information, and I started to play around with the
number of px until I found the center point. After I opened up Adobe Photoshop,
I used the eyedropper tool to grab the color codes that I needed off of my original
logo. I changed my font to Acumin Pro for the titles, and Sabon for the body copy.
I also implemented some back up fonts which were Electra for body copy and
Avenir for the title. I then adjusted the padding around the image and the text to
create the look that I wanted. I feel like the most difficult part was just getting the
HTML to link to the CSS, but other than that it was a fun project.

BROCHURE
Description:

A two sided (Off-set) folding brochure.

Programs:
Adobe InDesign/Adobe Illustrator/Adobe Photoshop

Date:

July 10th, 2016

Course & Section:

COMM 130, Section 8

Instructor:

Professor Lefevre

Objective:

The objective of my brochure is to advertise a sports watch to those who do water

sports. It is mainly centered toward those who surf.

Process:

I first started off setting up the off-set fold in Adobe InDesign. I split my brochure
with an off-set fold so that when you open it, the (black with Nixon written in white
along side the company logo) right hand piece is the part where it opens up on the
left edge of the black.
I used a lot of repetition in this design to make it flow a little more. I repeated both
the logo and the watches images and implied them into my design. I chose to put
the colorful watches on the inside with the colorful design, and I left the outside of
the brochure to the darker and grey pictures
For all the watch images, I used the quick selection tool in Adobe Photoshop to
remove the background of the image. I then used the refine mask dialogue box to
smooth, shift edge and apply contrast to the outline of the flamingo. The changes
I made made the images blend better into my design. I then placed the company
logo (nixon logo) onto the back of the brochure InDesign where I then used the
text wrap option to wrap my text around the nixon logo I had just pasted to the
back. I adjusted the spacing to 0.25 around the logo for the text wrap.
I created the hite design logo in Illustrator using type tool and then simply
choosing my colors and fonts. I changed the i in hite to show a little creativity. I
then placed it into InDesign, where I then located it onto the back of the brochure
to mark the project I designed.
