BACKGROUND

University Act. 1947 passed by the United


Provinces Legislature.

REGISTRATION FORM

Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY)


was launched on 25th December 2000 as fully
funded Centrally Sponsored Scheme to provide
all weather road connectivity in rural areas of the
country. The programme envisages connecting
all habitation with a population of 500 persons
and above in the Plain areas and 250 person and
above in hill states, the tribal and the desert
areas.

Roorkee University also became the first


institution in the country to offer postgraduate
programs in engineering and technology in 1955.
On September 21, 2001, the University was
converted into IIT by the Government of India
through an Act of Parliament and recognised it as
an Institution of National importance.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE
on

Focus on quality has been a singular feature of


the PMGSY right from its inception, PMGSY has
completed fifteen years of Journey, New
concepts of Principal Technical Agency (PTA),
State Technical Agency (STA), National Quality
Monitor (NQM), State Quality Monitor (SQM),
Vertical Tenders, 5 year guarantee are some of
the features behind the success story of PMGSY.
So this is the time to look back and share the
experiences of Research and Construction with
all those who have contributed to this Yojna. This
conference will provide a platform to all such
persons

ABOUT IIT ROORKEE


IIT Roorkee has its roots in the Roorkee College
which was set up in 1854. It was the first
engineering college of India and was renamed as
Thomason College of Civil Engineering in 1854.
The College laid the foundation of modern
engineering education and the use of civil
engineering practices in the infrastructure
development of the country. The irrigation
infrastructure in the form of dams and canals,
roads and highways, railways bridges etc. in the
country, all have been the outcome of the
engineering education imparted in this-the only
engineering institution in the country at that point
of time.
It got elevated as the first Technical University of
the country in 1948 through the Roorkee

Limited accommodation is available in Guest
Houses for those candidates who will present the
paper depending upon availability. Others can
