FAQ: AP Microeconomics (Mr.

Lavallee)
What is this?
AP Microeconomics is a one-semester course. At EA we offer it face-to-face in the fall and as a
hybrid course in the spring. A hybrid course means that some of the work is done online and
some is done in a traditional classroom setting, but know that you will be required to do about
an hours worth of work each day (equivalent of 40 minute class plus 20 minute homework).
When do we meet?
Each student is required to attend one meeting per week (the final schedule will be
disseminated at a later date; think Activity or Z-block or Lunch). There will also be assigned
times and locations for extra practice sessions.
Where will we meet?
This will depend on your subgroup.
How will I be graded?
There are three components of your grade:
Tests & Quizzes (60%)
Reading & Workbook online quizzes (20%)
Applications (20%)
How will I take tests?
When it is time to take a quiz or test, you will schedule it and either take it in the math office or
the Domino block study hall.
When will I do my work?
This depends on you and your schedule. You need to think hard about this; you have the
freedom to decide what will work best for you. I will help you determine what is right for you
and this could mean designating a time that you will come to the math office and I will
supervise your work or it could mean you do all your work outside of school.
What types of assignments should I expect?
There are four major resources that we use:
Videos (short bursts of information)
Textbook (longer and more theoretical)
Workbook & Handouts (focusing on mechanics)
Class (connecting dots and filling in the blanks)
What do I do on Tuesday Jan 19?
We will meet in U317 during Z block. If you have a lab conflict (I know a few of you do),
please email me to let me know.
Do I have to take the AP Exam?
Yes. Many colleges offer credit or a higher placement for good scores.
What does it take to be successful in AP Microeconomics?
2 things: hard work and interest in economics.
