Triple Axis Accelerometer Module-ADXL335

Introduction:

The ADXL335 is a small, thin, low power, complete 3-axis accelerometer with signal
conditioned voltage outputs. The product measures acceleration with a minimum fullscale range of 3 g.

It can measure the static acceleration of gravity in tilt-sensing applications, as well as

dynamic acceleration resulting from motion, shock, or vibration.

Features:

3-axis sensing capability

Small, low profile package of IC used
The sensor has a full sensing range of +/-3g.
Extremely low noise and power consumption (only 350 A)
On-board regulation provided (in range 1.8 V to 3.6 V dc)
10,000 g shock survival
Excellent temperature stability
Board comes fully assembled and tested with external components installed. This
includes 0.1uF capacitors which sets the bandwidth of each axis to be 50Hz.
Technical Specification:
Vcc: 5 V dc

ADXL 335

Capacitor (C1, C2, and C3 for X, Y and Z respectively):

The user selects the bandwidth of the accelerometer using the CX, CY, and CZ capacitors
at the XOUT, YOUT, and ZOUT pins. Bandwidths can be selected to suit the application,
with a range of 0.5 Hz to 1600 Hz for the X and Y axes, and a range of 0.5 Hz to 550 Hz for
the Z axis.

Analog output from pin X, Y and Z :

These analog outputs are interfaced with the controllerI/O pins which well configure as
input. For implementation of these data we need to convert it into 8-bit digital equivalent.

ST Pin:
The ST pin controls the self-test feature. When this pin is set to VS, an electrostatic force
is exerted on the accelerometer beam. The resulting movement of the beam allows the user to
test if the accelerometer is functional. The typical change in output is 1.08 g (corresponding
to 325 mV) in the X-axis, +1.08 g (or +325 mV) on the Y-axis, and +1.83 g (or +550 mV)

on the Z-axis. This ST pin can be left open-circuit or connected to common (COM) in normal
use.

Voltage regulator:
This IC requires voltage between1.8 V to 3.6 V which is supplied by the IC1117.It is capable of
supplying 3.3V.

AXES OF ACCELERATION SENSITIVITY:

The concept of the triple axis accelerometer can be best explained by the following
diagrammatical representation..Read the diagrams carefully by considering the correct
orientation of the IC with respect to the its notch.
