ROYAL GOVERNMENT OF BHUTAN DINE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION Policy and Planning Di . viet > Thimphu : Bhutan aa = Ref. No. MoE/PPD/MTR /2010/ @ 2) <~ April 4, 2011 To The Dasho Dzongda Dzongkhag Administration Subject: Low Cost School Designs Dear Dasho, The Ministry of Education has uploaded the revised the low cost school building designs (previously ~ known as CPS designs) on the Education website www.education.gov.bt For your information, and as per the decisions from the MTR, please see which designs are applicable to your school construction works, based on climatic conditions, locally available materials and location. Please note that these designs are recommended for community and primary schools in remote and rural areas and especially for schools with low enrolment numbers and which do not have high potential for expansion in the future. ‘These designs are also seen as an alternative way to cut the cost of construction in the education sector, reducing the time spent on construction and also making use of locally available materials and skills. Therefore, these designs could also be used for the construction of staff quarters in rural and remote schools where it is difficult to transport materials and get contractors. Please note that in addition to these designs, safety features must always be ensured for all school construction and therefore factors such as the quality of the construction, soil stability and safety features within the buildings and in the surroundings must be considered in all school constructions. At the same time, should dzongkhags wish to revise these designs or make their own designs, please send the new/altered designs to the SPBD for approval. The SPBD would study the designs and send their clearance/comments urgently. Sincerely, sangay Zam Secretary 1.
