Lesson objectives:
to develop Ss' abilities to understand written information
to introduce irregular verbs to describe actions and events in the Simple Past
Tense
to extend pupils' vocabulary related to accidents and diseases
to allow Ss to express themselves freely & to encourage pair work
to improve the Ss writing skills
Procedure:
the T invites the ss to read Tonys diary, taking turns
the T elicits the translation of the unknown words, writing them on the blb
ss are invited to work in pairs in order to match the conversations in ex. 1/
p.78 (which represent messages delivered in Direct speech and are
expressed with the Present Continuous/ Simple ) to their correspondents
from Tonys diary (which are formulated in the Past Tense)
the T checks their answers and gives them feedback

Activity 3: Grammar focus
Aims: -to introduce the irregular verbs and their role in the formation of the
Simple Past
- to encourage the ss to use them in everyday speech
Procedure:
the T explains the Ss the rules for the use irregular verbs in the Past Tense,
she gives them some examples on the blackboard, which they copy in their
notebooks and highlight the key words
the T also gives the ss a list of irregular verbs for reference and asks them
to find the past tense forms of the verbs in ex. 2/ 79
for further practice, she gives them a handout with 2 exercises; in the first
one they are supposed to complete the sentences using a verb from a given
list and in the second one they have to transform some contexts- which are
in the Present Tense- into Past sentences
the ss write down their answers on the blb and the T corrects potential
mistakes

Activity 4: Vocabulary focus
Aims: to develop the ss vocabulary related to accidents and diseases
Procedure: the T invites the ss to read the situations in ex. 10/ p.79 and to give
examples of accidents which can happen in various places (on the road, at work,
at home, in sport) and asks them to make spidergrams on the blackboard
providing as many examples as they can think of

Activity 5: Speaking practice
Aims: -to practise the newly- acquired terminology and the Past Tense forms of
the verbs
-to develop fluency through conversation in English
Procedure: the T invites them to play the parts of the doctor and of the patient,
respectively, revealing the causes of their accidents and giving details in each case
