Type of lesson: mixed
Time allowed: 50 minutes

Aims of the lesson:


to check the understanding of a written text
to review and consolidate the Present Continuous
to introduce new expressions related to weather conditions
to improve writing skills
to check listening comprehension
to encourage variety of interaction

Skills: reading, listening, speaking, writing.


Materials: textbook, handouts, blackboard, laptop, video projector, CD-rom
Classroom interactions: Whole class, Individual work, Pair work

Stages of the lesson

Activity 1: Warm-up
Aims: to break the ice and to revise the information acquired in the
previous lesson (the Present Continuous Tense)
to check the homework and to introduce the new topic
Procedure:
the T invites some pupils to come in front of the class and to mime
some actions, and their colleagues are supposed to figure out what
is happening, asking questions and interacting with the pupil in
front of them until they guess
the T checks their homework and corrects potential mistakes
then she introduces the new lesson

Activity 2: Reading comprehension
Aims: to check the understanding of a written text
to allow pupils to expand their knowledge
Procedure:
the pupils read the new text, taking turns
the T makes sure that they understood the content of the text, by
asking supplementary questions (What are the girls doing?,
Who appears in the first photo?, Where are Megs parents in the
second picture?, etc), she gets feedback and then she asks them to
translate the sentences
next, the pupils are asked to solve ex. 2/86 in their manual

Activity 3: Language focus
Aims: to introduce new expressions related to weather conditions
to consolidate the Present Continuous
to encourage pair work
Procedure:
the T introduces new ways of expressing the weather: The sun is
shining, It is raining, It is snowing and elicits their
translation from the pupils, while writing them down on the
blackboard
the pupils are then supposed to work in pairs to solve ex 1 from
their worksheet, they have to associate different suggestions /
advice with the appropriate weather
in the next exercise 2/p.87 that the T suggests, they have to
describe the weather in each image and to explain what the
children are doing

Activity 4: Writing focus
Aims: to check the understanding of written messages
to enable pupils to produce new messages in English
to improve the spelling
Procedure:
the pupils are invited to read 2 letters and, in order to prove that
they understood the information delivered, they have to answer
five questions based on the texts (ex. 1/ p. 88)
the T checks their answers and gets feedback from them

for further writing practice, the pupils are given another worksheet,
and they have solve the activity by translating the picture into
words
they take turns writing their sentences on the blackboard and the T
checks and corrects potential mistakes

Activity 5: Listening comprehension
Aims: to check the understanding of a song they listen to
to practise and improve listening skills and pronunciation
Procedure:
the T plays a song on the laptop and the pupils have to listen to the
lyrics and fill in the missing information on their handouts

Skills: listening, writing, reading
Time: 10
Activity 6: Evaluation and setting the homework
Aims: to consolidate the newly-acquired language and grammar
structures
to improve writing skills
Procedure:
the T plays the pupils a game on the laptop and they take turns
coming and solving the activity: they have to select the right verb
form of the auxiliary To be to complete some sentences

finally, the T gives them the assignment: they are supposed to


translate the lyrics of the song they have just listened to
