Co-processing of Plastic Waste

Plastic waste can be used as alternative fuel and raw material (AFR). Co-processing
refers to the use of waste materials in industry process such as cement, lime or
steel production and power stations or any other large combustion plants.
Co-processing Flowchart:
Primary Collection and segregation -> Segregation to recyclable part -> Composting
-> Bailed Material -> Transportation to cement plant -> Co-processing
The process:
Plastic and waste is collected and segregated first. The second stage of segregation
is for looking out for recyclable part. Then composting takes place.
Composting will then lead to two by-products
1. Organic Manure
2. Non-compostable/ rejected part
The non-compostable part is called bailed material and is transported to cement
plant for co-processing
Plasma Pyrolysis Technology
Pyrolysis is the disintegration of carbonaceous material in oxygen-starved
atmosphere.
Process:
Plastic waste is fed into the primary feeder at 850 degrees temperature. This
dissociates into carbon monoxide, water molecules and hydrocarbons. In the
secondary chamber, the gases are combusted in presence of excess air.
Inflammable gases are combusted with high voltage spark. Hydrocarbons and CO
are converted to safe CO2 and water. Process conditions doesnt allow the formation
of toxic gases. 99% organic waste get converted to non toxic gases.
