Interview Worksheet
The intent of this interview is to investigate how people implement their postsecondary pathway and achieve
their Career Goals. You will need to interview someone who has at least 10 years of work experience and who
has made the transition from high school to the work environment.
Use this worksheet to assist you in forming questions for your interview. Be aware that not all questions listed
below may be applicable. Make adjustments when necessary and appropriate.

Can you briefly describe to me what it is that you do in your job? What are your daily duties and
responsibilities?
She assists patients who are having difficulty breathing or require full breathing support.

following this plan?
She did not have a plan.

Are you currently employed in the dream job you thought you were going to have in high school? If

She is not because she decided to take a different road.

currently have? Furthermore, are you working in the field for which you trained or educated? If not, why
not?
Has a diploma in respiratory therapy and it is required for her job.
How did you get your first postsecondary job or career? Was it through an advertised position or by

Yes, she is and has worked there for 27 years and does see herself continuing to work there for the
next 10 years.
If you are no longer employed in the same job/career you obtained after your postsecondary
experience, why did you change jobs/careers? How many job or career changes have you had?
She has never changed jobs. Only the place she worked 3 different times.

Have changes in technology affected your job? If so, how have they affected it?
Yes, because of electronic charting, more effective equipment, etc.
If you had one word of advice for a young person who is starting to plan his or her future career, what
would it be?
To get a degree that will put you directly into an occupation. Dont just get a general degree.
