WelcometoERAS,aserviceoftheAssociationofAmericanMedicalColleges(AAMC).ERASiseasytouse,butit
isimportantthatapplicantsreadandunderstandhowtheserviceworks.ThisguideexplainshowERASworks
andoutlinesthestepsforusingMyERAStoapplytoresidencyprograms.Readingthisguidemayhelpapplicants
avoiderrorsthatcouldaffectyourapplication.

Timeline
Thisseasonweareallowingapplicantstogetaheadstartonsendingtheirapplicationstoprograms.Applicants
willbeabletobeginapplyingtoprograms10daysinadvanceofprogramsbeingabletoaccess/view
applicationsandsupportingdocument.Wehavemadethischangeinresponsetoconcernsfromapplicantsthat
wouldliketheabilitytosubmittheirapplicationsinadvancetoensureprogramswouldbeabletoviewtheir
applicationsontheopeningday.

HelpfulTipsforUsingMyERAS
1. ERASwillnotcollectorprocessanyapplicantdocuments.Supportingdocumentsarereceivedand
processedbyyourDesignatedDeansOffice.LoRsmustbeuploadedbytheLoRAuthorviatheERAS
LetterofRecommendationPortal(LoRP).
2. InordertobeginusingMyERAS,youmustobtainanERAStokenfromyourDesignatedDeansOffice.
3. ERASdoesnotretaindocumentsforreuseinsubsequentseasons.ApplicantswhoplantouseERASin
subsequentseasonsareadvisedtoprintorsavenecessarydocumentspriortoseasonclose.
4. ERASdoesnotsetprogramapplicationdeadlinesorrequirementsastheyaresetandcommunicatedby
theindividualprogramsthemselves.Applicantsareadvisedtocontactprogramsdirectlyforrelevant
information.
5. YoumustcertifyandsubmityourMyERASapplicationbeforeyoucanapplytoprograms.
6. Onceyouhavecertifiedandsubmittedyourapplication,youwillnotbeabletomakeanychangesto
yourapplicationoutsideoftheinformationcontainedunderthePersonalInformationpageofthe
MyERASapplication.
7. ForLoRs,youmustaddandconfirmLoRAuthor(s).WhenyouconfirmaLoRAuthor,thesystemwill
generateapersonalizedLetterRequestForm,whichyouwillneedtoprovidetotheLoRAuthor.Youcan
dotheletterrequestformtoyourauthorviaemail,postalmail,fax,orinperson.
8. OnceyouhavereleasedyourUSMLEand/orCOMLEXUSAtranscript,assignedittoprogram(s)andpaid
thetranscriptfee,ERASwillsendyourtranscriptrequestsforthoseprogramstotheNBME,ECFMG(for
IMGResidency)orNBOME.
9. Examtranscriptrequestsareusuallyprocessedonthesamedaybutunderspecialcircumstances,itcan
takeupto5businessdaysfromthedateofyourrequestforexamscoretranscriptstobeprocessedand
madeavailabletoprograms.Whennewtranscriptscoresareuploaded,themostrecentuploaddatewill
displayinMyERAS.
10. WhensearchingforprogramsinMyERAS,ifaprogramhasastatusotherthanParticipating,youshould
contacttheprogramdirectlyregardingtheirparticipationstatuswithERAS.
11. SomeprogramshavestaterequirementstowhichtheymustadheretothatpreventselectionofIMGs.
Contacttheprogramsdirectlytofindouttheirrequirementspriortoapplying.

IfyouareapplyingforaresidencyandfellowshippositionduringasingleERASseason,youwillbeableto
registerbotharesidencytokenandfellowshiptoken.Onceyouhaveregisteredyourfirsttoken(residencyor
fellowship)andareloggedintoMyERAS,therewillbeadropdownoptionatthetopofthepagethatallowsyou
toregisteryoursecondtoken.Selectingthisoptionwilltakeyoutothetokenentrypagewhereyoucanrepeat
steps35above.

AllprogramstowhichyouappliedwillreceiveyourMyERASapplication,aswellasanyPersonal

IfyouauthorizedreleaseofyourUSMLEtranscript,assignedittoatleastoneprogramtowhichyou
appliedandpaidthetranscriptfee,theNBMEorECFMG(IMGResidency)willreceivearequestforthe
transcriptandalistofprogramstowhichyouassignedyourtranscript.
IfyouauthorizedreleaseofyourCOMLEXUSAtranscript,assignedittoatleastoneprogramtowhich
youappliedandpaidthetranscriptfee,theNBOMEwillreceivearequestforatranscriptandalistof
programstowhichyouassignedyourtranscript.
YourDesignatedDeansOfficewillreceivealistofprogramsthatyouappliedtoandthedocumentsyou
assignedtotheseprograms.
UsingtheProgramDirectorsWorkstation(PDWS),participatingresidencyprogramsviewapplication
documents.Programdirectorsmayprint,review,andevaluateapplicationsusingcriteriatheyestablish.
