INTRODUCTION

In Modern days there are thousands of bikes running on the road. There
is thorough competition between the companies of the manufacturing different
types of mechanism. On the other hand percentage of accidents also increase
therefore every company try to find cause of accidents and eliminate the cause.
However, there is one problem, which is unsolved up to present day. The problem
is "Accident cause Jue to uplifted side stand". During driving very time due to
early, forcedness or any other such reasons, rider forgets to lift the side stand.
This may cause various serious accidents. There is very necessary to have an
arrangement in the hike to pi-event the accidents.
Some companies try to solve this problem but they get success in
certain extent.

The idea behind making any product is to fulfill the

requirement of society. Therefore, it is necessary to have a separate

attachment, which can be connected or attached to the bike for
automatically lifting the stand and this can be possible with pressing gear lever.
In addition, this attachment is easily welded or connected to most of bikes, but
the limitation is that it is possible only for those bikes having footgear
arrangement.

SIDE LIFTING STAND

we discovered that the wheels are placed on the inside of the stand
for packing. The wheels can be relocated on either side of each arm if desired
(photo above) by simply unscrewing the nut and reassembling the axle and wheels
so that the wheels are located on either side of the tube.
An anodized bolt serves as the axle and 4 flat washers are provided to allow
the wheels to roll easily; the nut is a "stop nut" so it can be tightened only enough
to allow the wheels to spin freely and it doesn't have to be tightened down all the
way.
We tried the URRS05 rear stand on the Ducati GT1000 and lo and behold, it
works on the round section, double-sided swingarm on that bike also. It's a tight
fit, so the lifting heads have to be backed out about as far as they can go to widen
the stand, and the lifting arms must be perfectly lined up on either side, but it does
lift the GT.
If we could make a suggestion it would probably be to maybe increase the
inside width of the lifting arms by about 1" and make the lifting rods about another
1/2" longer and it would probably be perfect for the unique GT1000 in addition to
all of the other bikes it would fit.
We discovered that the stand can be "field modified" and spread apart to add
the extra inch or so by laying it down on its side on the floor and standing on one
arm while pulling the other arm up to spread and stretch the inside "yoke".
But it's pretty amazing that the slight redesign of this stand now allows it to
work on a much wider variety of motorcycles. The revised Steel Horse URRS05

motorcycle rear stand has a list price at the date of publication that hasn't changed
from the original version; it's still only $114.99.

HISTORY

Picking up a motorcycle can be dangerous and cause serious injury if done

incorrectly or under poor footing. A simple back injury could wreck your life!
Always, always, always try to get help firstand remember, you don't want
anybody else to get hurt, either. You need to think clearly, use common sense, and
be in good physical condition. Keep your body and back straight, and lift only with
your legs. Maintain control of the motorcycle and never twist your body while
lifting. Check the motorcycle for damage prior to riding it again.
The majority of picking up a motorcycle is mental: Work smarter, not harder.
Motorcycles are heavy machines. Think about how you want to do it firstif you
were going to lift a 300-pound refrigerator, would you just run up and grab it and
start muscling it around, or would you plan your attack? What would you do if you
were going to liftan 800-poundrefrigerator?
The ideal situation for lifting a motorcycle would be :
1. Have the lifting technique demonstrated by a qualified professional.
2. Practice with a qualified professional.
3. Have the qualified professional evaluate and coach your lifting technique.
Step1: Assess Yourself
Take a few minutes to calm down. Seeing your bike lying on its side
can be a traumatic experience, but it happens to everyone at one time or
another. Your bike's not going anywhere without you. Spend a few minutes
asking yourself questions and talking yourself through it: are you hurt? Are
you able to pick up your motorcycle in a normal situation? Do you want to
pick up your motorcycle? Is it safe to pick up your motorcycle? Etc., etc. You
have the rest of your life to pick up your bike; take a few minutes to relax
and assess the situation. It's best if you get help. And remember: if someone

helps you, don't forget to warn them not to touch the hot exhaust pipe, not
to lift by the turn signals, etc. Also make sure they lift correctly. You don't
want some one else getting hurt.
Step2: Assessthe Environment
If you are in danger from other traffic, get away from your motorcycle
and seek a place of safety. Let law enforcement respond and take control of
the scene before picking up your motorcycle. Take a look at the ground: do
you have a solid surface to lift from? Is there gravel? Is the pavement wet?
Are you right next to a ditch? You don't want to slip and get pinned under
your

bike.

Step3 : Assess the Motorcycle

Turn it off using the engine cut-off switch or the ignition switch. Turn off
the fuel using the fuel supply valve. Spilled fuel is common, so use caution
(though usually you need sparks, flame, or an ignition source to have a fire
or explosion.) If the motorcycle is lying on its right side, put the sidestand
down and put the motorcycle in gear. If the motorcycle is on its left side, you
can't put the side stand down and can't put the motorcycle in gear. Make a
mental note of these facts. You don't want to pick up your motorcycle and
then immediately drop it onto its other side! Techniques to Lift the
MotorcyclePreferred and Regular Methods
Technique I: Facing Away from the Motorcycle - For Large
Motorcycles Preferred Method for any Size
1. Turn the handlebars to full-lock position with front of tire pointed
2. downward.

3. Find the "balance point" of the two tires and the engine, engine guard,
or footpeg. The motorcycle will be fairly easy to lift until it reaches this
point because it's resting on its side. Once you start lifting from there,
you are responsible for the most of the weight of the bike.
4. "Sit" down with your butt/lower back against the motorcycle seat. Be
very careful to keep your back straight and your head up. Put your
feet solidly on the ground about 12 inches apart, with your knees bent
slightly.
5. With one hand, grasp the handgrip (underhand, preferably), keeping
your wrist straight.
6. With your other hand, grip the motorcycle framework (or any solid
part of the motorcycle), being careful to avoid the hot exhaust pipe,
turn signals, etc.
7.

Lift with your legs by taking small steps backwards, pressing against
the seat with your butt and keeping your back straight. On slippery or
gravellysurfaces this technique probably won't work. On inclined
surfaces this can be very dangerous.

8.

Be careful not to lift the motorcycle up and then flip it onto its other
side! If possible, put the sidestand down and the bike in gear.

9.

Set the motorcycle on its sidestand and park it safely.

Technique II: Facing the Motorcycle - For Small

and Medium-Sized Motorcycles Regular Method
1. Turn the handlebars to the full-lock position with the front of the tire pointed
skyward.
2. Find the balance point of the two tires and the engine, engine guard, or footpeg.
The motorcycle will be fairly easy to lift until it reaches this point because it's
resting on its side. Once you start lifting from there, you are responsible for the
most of the weight of the bike.

AVAILABLE MECHANISM
Motorcycle Lift
The basic concept is to slide the lift under the motorcycle, lock the two
revolving rear wheels and slowly jack up the bike by pressing on the foot pedal
that operates the hydraulic jack. There are two vinyl coated parallel lifting
surfaces that contact the underside of the bike or engine and lift straight up. They
don't lift in a precisely vertical plane; there is some sideways movement, but it's

easy enough to compensate for the drift.

We found that the lift works best when the motorcycle is positioned
vertically with the rear end up on a swingarm stand. There are way too many
motorcycle configurations for us to try, but for the most part, if you don't own a
swingarm stand, the motorcycle should be parked nearly vertical with something
like a piece of wood under the side stand to minimize lean.
If you can do this, AND if you have enough clearance under the right side of
the motorcycle without fouling the exhausts, the lift can be pushed under the
engine from the side of the bike opposite the side stand.
The jack is released by lightly stepping on the release pedal. The lift is
designed to hold a maximum of 1,500 pounds, according to Sears, which should be
enough for just about any motorcycle out there.
The lift has a built-in safety feature, which is basically a pair of springloaded ratchet levers that can be placed in one of 3 positions to prevent the jack
from collapsing (see photo, left). The knobs on the right in the photo can be
screwed down to the floor to help steady the lift.
It all works very smoothly, and I was impressed at the accurate feel of the
pedals when lifting or releasing the bike. Very accurate positioning can be
obtained, so the hydraulic cylinder must be specially designed for this application.
The lift works much better under a motorcycle with a pair of full-length
frame tubes, like most cruisers and many older bikes. The Triumph, however, uses
its engine as a stressed member, and there are no frame rails underneath. We did
not try using the lift under a sportbike, but I think a horizontal four-cylinder engine

might be too narrow (front to back) to fit on the lift's rails.

The short length of the Triumph's engine means that the lift must be
precisely centered under the engine to balance the motorcycle on the stand. The
only point of contact on this bike is the oil pan, which is very narrow.
The Thunderbird Sport's exhaust hangs off the right side and sits slightly
lower than the engine, so the use of a swingarm stand is a must and the lift must be
rolled under the left side of the bike. This is something to consider if you plan on
purchasing a lift. The Triumph's engine is just barely wide and long enough for the
lift to fit underneath, and the bike will balance on the lift's pads, but just barely.
The lift easily slides underneath most motorcycles, because it collapses to 51/4" high under the lifting surfaces. Sears recommends raising the lift to one of the
3 safety catch levels only, which engage at 11-3/4", 14-1/4" and 16-1/2" high.
The problem, at least with a motorcycle without under-engine frame rails
like the Thunderbird Sport, is that the balance point (of the motorcycle) is located
in a very narrow window, both front-to-back and side-to-side. Sears provides two
ratcheting tie-downs in the box (which can also be used to tie down the bike on a
trailer or pickup truck bed). The tie-downs attach to one of four welded-on points
on the frame of the lift.
But the tie-downs don't really do much to hold the bike. They'll hold the
bike to the lift, but if the whole shebang decides to topple over, the straps will
probably do nothing other than keep the lift attached to the bottom of the bike.
When the bike is on the lift in the raised position, it's steady enough to do
some minor repair like an oil change or cleaning, but most of the time if you need

to lift a motorcycle, it's for some heavy work, like removing the front tire or forks.
After trying the lift under a couple of motorcycles, I'm not convinced that it
will hold a motorcycle steady enough to perform anything other than very light
maintenance. The bikes just seem too unsteady and the balance point is too
sensitive.
I can easily rock a motorcycle back and forth or side to side when it's on the
lift, so I would certainly expect it to fall over backwards if, for example, the weight
of the front tire is removed.
I don't think the Triumph could be successfully balanced on the lift without
the front wheel, because the engine is not wide enough front to back to allow the
lift to be relocated to account for the lighter weight. There's only one location
where the lift will fit, and it doesn't take much to unbalance the bike when it's
raised.
The two vinyl coated parallel lift surfaces are 13-1/4" wide to the outer
edges, and each flat is 2-1/2" wide. This means that if your engine is shorter (front
to back) than the lifting surfaces are wide, there many not be any leeway for
adjusting the position of the lift to stabilize the bike under various weighting
scenarios.
My opinion is that a motorcycle on this lift may not be safe enough to
perform anything other than light maintenance. For example, the front axle nuts on
the Triumph take some muscle to remove, and that kind of jerking around could
upset the balance. Your fear factor may vary; I'm conservative when it comes to
working around heavy machinery.

Conclusion
My opinion is that the product is definitely not a replacement for a proper
motorcycle table lift, nor is it a replacement for a rear swingarm stand. It does
work better on motorcycles with frame rails underneath, like those found on most
cruisers. However, the potential problem of side-to-side and front-to-back balance
still exists. The motorcycles we tried just seem too unbalanced for me to feel
comfortable.
I'm not sure what types of maintenance jobs the lift is designed for. An oil
change, perhaps, or maybe to clean the wheels?
Editor's Note:
Many cruisers have double-cradle frames, which work much better with
the Sears lift because the bike sits on the lift via the frames looping under the
engine. Motorcycles without frames looping under the engine have a much smaller
surface to sit on the lift; in some cases, the entire motorcycle must be balanced on
its oil pan. This can cause an unstable platform for serious work. However, once
the bike is off the ground I was comfortable working on the bike, although mindful
of the big picture. Most recently I removed my rear wheel/hub/driveshaft/fender
while using the lift. Worked great. Incidentally. there is no rule book associated
with this lift so that said, I added additional load carrying/stabilizing components
(more wood) to steady the bike (photos below). Weighing the significant factors I
believe this lift is the best bang for the buck."

IMPORTANT:
You must ensure that the lower swivel is under the CENTER of each fork,
and not on the edge. You want to be sure that the fork does not slip off to the front
when you apply pressure to lift.

Once the swivels are centered under each fork, slowly and carefully press
down the handle to lift the front. As with the rear, the stand handle is lowered to the
ground, and the motorcycle should be secure with the front wheel slightly off the
ground, providing easy access for wheel removal or the installation of tire
warmers.Once both the rear and the front are lifted on stands, the motorcycle is
very secure and both wheels are elevated. When removing the stands, remember to
remove the front stand first (again, the rear stand is okay to use alone, but the front
stand should never be used without the rear already in place).
Tips & Warnings There are a wide variety of stand types, with various types
of devices to lift the bike, handles in front vs. rear, etc. Shop around for a style that
suits your taste and works well with your bike.
Front stands that lift the bike from under the steering head must have pins
that are sized and angled specifically for your motorcycle. Be sure you purchase
and use the proper steering pin for your bike.
Always secure the bike with the rear stand before you use the front stand.
The motorcycle will not be stable with the front stand alone.
If you are just getting used to your stands or feeling a bit uneasy trying to
position and lift the bike while supporting it, don't be shy about asking for a hand.
In track paddocks, we all help each other all the time. You can manage it on your
own, but it's easier (and safer) if you have a second set of hands.

The need of prevention of rider from this type of condition, which is happened
many times. Hence, it is important to create something or one mechanism, which
prevents the rider from that accident. Moreover, the mechanism should be such that it
ghould neither affect the original mechanism nor create some new problems. In addition,
it should not increase the price of the bike. It is just small mechanism, which operates the

Thus, the design is such that the customer need it fulfills to its best point can be

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to an automatic lifting mechanism for
motorcycle saddle, and more particularly to a lifting mechanism that automatically
springs open an unlocked motorcycle saddle to a suitable angular position at a
buffered speed, so that a user could conveniently access articles positioned in a
space below the saddle.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
A motorcycle does not require a big parking area and could move at a speed
satisfying general users, and is therefore widely accepted by people living in
crowded cities. The currently available motorcycles usually include a storage space
below a saddle for holding miscellaneous things, such as a helmet and other
personal articles. The saddle is pivotally connected at an end to one side of a top
opening of the storage space, and at an opposite end to a hook controlled through a
key, so that the saddle could be pivotally turned to a closed position and locked.
However, when the saddle, is.unlocked, a user has to lift the saddle with one hand
to expose the storage space for removing things therefrom or positioning things
thereinto. This is, of course, very inconvenient to the user. In the event the
motorcycle is improperly parked and tends to

. incline or vibrate, the saddle is

subject to unexpected closing from the lifted position to even injure the user or
damage things positioned below the saddle.
It is therefore tried by the inventor to develop an automatic lifting
mechanism for motorcycle saddle to overcome the above-mentioned problems with
the conventional saddle.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

A primary object of the present invention is to provide an automatic lifting
mechanism for motorcycle saddle, so that a saddle of a motorcycle could be
automatically elastically lifted or moved downward at a buffered speed without the
risk of injuring a user.
To achieve the above object, the automatic lifting mechanism for
motorcycle saddle according to the present invention mainly includes a first
respectively fixed to a saddle and a body of a motorcycle, at least one spiral spring
having two sideward extended terminal ends separately pressed against the two
supporting arms, and a damping device located in each spiral spring to rotatably
engage at two ends with the two supporting arms. While a spring force of each
spiral spring quickly elastically stretches open the first and the second supporting
arm when the saddle is unlocked, the damping device limits a rotating speed of the
two supporting arms, so that the saddle could be automatically lifted or moved
downward at a buffered speed.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an automatic lifting
mechanism for motorcycle saddle that has effectively reduced volume and is easy
to assemble.
To achieve the above object, the automatic lifting mechanism for motorcycle
saddle of the present invention includes a cylindrical damping device being

mounted in a spiral spring with two ends separately directly connected to two
supporting arms of the automatic lifting mechanism.
The present invention has been described with some preferred embodiments
thereof and it is understood that many changes and modifications in the described
embodiments can be carried out without departing from the scope and the spirit of
the invention that is intended to be limited only by the appended claims.

A foot-operated motorcycle lift stand. The cyclist drives the motorcycle over the
lift stand in its lowermost compact position. While manually steadying the
motorcycle, the cyclist actuates a foot lever to shift the stand platform into lifting
engagement with the undercarriage of the motorcycle by means of legs which
pivotally secure the platform to a base and which, in motion, describe a
parallelogram. The foot lever pivots from its position adjacent one of the legs of
the stand to an upstanding position, where additional foot pressure creates a turning
moment to shift the legs and platform to a stable raised position. The cyclist's
hands are then free to secure the lift stand with positive locking means which lock
the stand in place. When not in use, the lift stand can be conveniently stored in an
upright position whereby edges of the platform and base provide stable resting
means.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention
The field of invention relates to motorcycle lift stands, and, in particular, to lift
stands for off-road motorbikes.
2. Description of Related Art
There are generally two types of motorcycles. The first type of motorcycle is
primarily designed for use on improved highways, wherein the motorcycle wheels
are normally intended to be in contact with the road at all times. This type of
motorcycle is commonly equipped with a so-called "kickstand" for parking the
motorcycle in an upright position. The kickstand essentially comprises a springloaded rod permanently secured to the chassis of the motorcycle. When the
motorcycle is underway, the kickstand is normally carried in a spring-biased
horizontal position. When the cyclist wishes to park the motorcycle, pressure of his
foot pivots the kickstand downwardly approximately 90 into a second springbiased position in which the motorcycle is stabilized by leaning against the

kickstand.
The second kind of motorcycle, sometimes referred to as a "dirt track bike,"
is commonly used off highways in cross country competitive events wherein the
entire bike may be airborne for short periods, thereafter striking the ground with
considerable impact. With this kind of hard use, there is always the danger that a
kickstand will become dislodged from its horizontal position upon impact, or that
some object on the ground will snag the kickstand, causing injury to the rider
and/or to the bike. For this reason, dirt track bikes are not usually equipped with
kickstand parking devices.
In lieu of kickstands for dirt track bikes, prior art devices in the form of separate
stands have been devised which engage the midsection of the undercarriage of the
dirt track bike. These prior art devices include means to extend the stand vertically
so as to lift one or both bike wheels from the ground. Saunois essentially comprises
a lower rectangular platform pivotally connected to an upper rectangular platform
by four legs secured to the four corners of each platform to provide a
parallelogram-type connection between the upper and the lower platforms. One leg
extends vertically above the upper platform to act as a hand lever to raise and to
lower the upper platform. One of the problems associated with this design is that it
requires the cyclist to steady the bike with one hand while gripping the lever with
the other hand in order to raise the upper platform into lifting engagement with the
bike. In addition, the design requires the use of the cyclist's weaker back and arm
muscles. Applicant's invention, on the other hand, enables the cyclist to steady the
bike with both hands while raising a platform with a novel foot-operable lever,
using the stronger, more efficient muscles of the leg.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION

It is therefore among the objects of the invention to provide a novel

motorcycle lift stand that is safe, rugged, lightweight, and compactable, for easy
storage and transportation.
It is another object of the invention to provide a motorcycle lift stand which
is operated by a foot lever, so that it does not depend upon lift means such as
hydraulic jacks, mechanical screw jacks, electric drive lifts, or ratchet means.
It is still another object of the invention to provide a motorcycle lift stand
which, during the lifting procedure, leaves both hands of the cyclist free to
maintain motorcycle stability.
It is still another object of the invention to provide a motorcycle lift stand
that includes novel trouble-free means for raising a lifting platform into position
beneath the center portion of the undercarriage of a motorcycle.
It is yet another object of the invention to provide a motorcycle lift stand
which, in its lowermost compact position, is of such low profile as to allow the
cyclist to easily position the motorcycle over the device prior to its use.
It is still another object of the invention to provide a motorcycle lift stand
which supports a stationary motorcycle in a stable and substantially vertical
position at a convenient height such that the cyclist may perform maintenance
procedures on the motorcycle.
It is a yet further object of the invention to provide a motorcycle lift stand,
the use of which depends almost entirely upon the use of the cyclist's leg muscles,
which are stronger and more efficient than arm or back muscles.

1. It an interesting to know as to how early the man has been
curious to know about the earth and the various processes
going on it. As the matter of fact, since from accident time,
the man has been practicing the art of engineering and
started investing on simple thing.
2. With the passage of time the man on the entirely basis of his
practical experience and commonsense, created a few thing
mechanism to reduced his effort but whenever there was a
breakdown or failure in either the lever or any other part i.e.
Spring, it was replaced. Tremendous technology can be
achieved by this arrangement or mechanism.

Lever
A lever is a rigid rod or bar capable of turning about a fix point called
fulcrum. It is used as machine to lift a load by the application by a small effort
sometime a lever is mainly used to facilitated the application of forced in desired
direction. A lever may be straight or curved and forced applied on the lever may be
parallel or inclined one another.

ASSEMBLY OF SIDE LIFTING STAND

COMPROMISE DESIGN:

Today's market is a customer's market, what customer demand is the subject

concern of manufacture due to vast competition in every field of product, Before these
decades, the scenario was difficult.

The manufacture use to design the product

according to his own concept and way, the customer was not much kept in mind while
designing and manufacturing procedure.

The reason for this, limited competition.

Later the producer knew that whatever new thing they launch Customer has to except it
by taking besides what the customer need But today's picture is different from the
traditional concept of marketing is change. Customer's point of view concern with the
abundant in designing and manufacturing.

Lets take the bike for example.

customer fill, there is a need for fuel indicator beside the tank.

As

Hero Honda and some

other companies brought this concept in actual. There are cases of customer making
while adopting such policy.

The views of customer are collected through serving or

some special offer about the subject and win type by taking actual demonstration of the
producer by replacement1 offer. abut manufacturing have some limitations and not able to
satisfy each demand due to manufacturing limitations considering other processing
aspect, cost; and its reliabilities. Then instead of dropping, such ideas of producer may
find a mid way in between both customer view and manufacturing aspect. This design
prepare by such compromise is called compromise design.

As the gear - level is pressed, The horizontal rod also get pressed & rotated
about fulcrum 02. Hence, the stop rod start shades over guide way from P to Q.

As the rod takes position at Q, restriction to the rotation of hammer get

removed i.e. stop rod and hammer, get rotated until the stop rod comes at
point R.
The stop rod is loaded with small spring which always tend to rotate the link is
downward direction. So that when hammer get fully loaded stop-rod
automatically come at point P and stops the rotation of hammer.

Fig. Square Plate with Y-Shaped Groove

When link is connected to plate for rear geared vehicle i.e. at fulcrum 02, the
stop rod traces the path 1-2-3. When link is connected for font geared vehicle
i.e. at fulcrum 03 the stop-rod traces path 1-2-4. The surface of guide way is
very smooth & stop rod kept round section so that there will be minimum
friction between them.

When rider pushed the side stand in downward direction, the hammer starts
rotating bout fulcrum 01 and start shade over guide way. At the same time spring

of hammer, start loading. When side stand completely at its extreme down position,
the hammer also takes its extreme, position is which it is fully in tension. The
spring of hammer is fully deformed produces force which is greater than the

fore of side - stand. The direction of force of hammer is same as that of side
stand. As the lifting force of hammer is greater than side stand force, it lifts the side
stand.

A stop Rod having two functions:

1. To stop or restrict the movement of hammer when it is fully

in tension until gear level get pressed.
2. To restrict rotation of hammer in its initial i.e. unloaded
condition.

Victorias Road Safety and Transport Strategic Action Plan for

Powered Two Wheelers 2009-2013
Powered two wheeled vehicles, which include motorcycles and scooters are
a growing part of Victorias transport future. They are becoming a more popular as
both a mode of transport and as a recreational activity.
However powered two wheeled vehicle riders and pillion passengers are
amongst the most vulnerable of road users.
On Victorian roads, they account for 13 per cent of deaths and serious
injuries although they comprise only three per cent of registered vehicles and less
than one per cent of traffic volume.
The aim of Victorias Road Safety and Transport Strategic Action Plan for
Powered Two Wheelers 2009-2013 is to reduce motorcyclist and scooter rider

fatalities and serious injuries and to ensure that powered two wheeled vehicles are
recognized in transport policy and planning.
The action plan identifies four priorities for action:

increasing knowledge and understanding of powered two wheeled vehicle

riding and crashes

recognising the role of powered two wheelers in the transport network and
improving the road system for powered two wheelers

improving rider and driver awareness, skills and knowledge; and

encouraging greater use of safer motorcycles and scooters and protective

clothing by riders.
