In 1980, the company founder, Mike Brinda, began teaching people who
wanted to learn how to use personal computers at a community college.
The first IBM personal computer came out in 1981 and Mike saw the
interest in his classes greatly increased.

5 MILESTONES FROM 30-PLUS YEARS

So, in 1982 with true American entrepreneurial spirit, Mike decided that
he would mortgage his house and open a school in a shopping centre in
Laguna Hills Mall.

FIRST AND BEST


In 1982 - back when the term Internet was first
used - we became the first company to offer desktop
application training.

The core focus in the beginning was to simply educate individuals who
wanted to learn how to use the Personal Computer. In 1985, the company
began to offer more technical training and, by 1992, further additions to
its course offerings enabled nationwide expansion.

INTERNATIONAL IT
In 1994 we became the largest network of Microsoft
Authorized Technical Education Centers, expanding
into South America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

VIRTUAL IT
In 1998 we opened our virtual doors with the
introduction of Online LIVE virtual instructor-led
training.

HOT GROWTH
In 2001 Business Week added us to its list of 100
Hot Growth Companies.

In 2007 we were named training partner to all 100
companies listed in Fortune magazines ranking of
Americas 100 largest corporations, plus more than

In 2012 New Horizons celebrated our 30th

This was executed through a franchise model because it was deemed


to be the most effective and secure route for growth. Weve always kept
franchising as our core mode of business. The first international location
opened in Mexico City in 1993.
Since then, weve seen some enormous success in our franchisee
network. Many of our partners have built substantial multi-million dollar
businesses across multiple markets, sometimes across multiple countries.
We also have numerous single training centre owners who have built
a great business to support their families and send their children
to university and beyond. Beyond business success, many of our

A graduate of MIT, Earles specialities include franchising, operations, start-ups, corporate finance
and strategic consulting. His extensive, worldwide career has spanned the United States, Europe,
Middle East and Asia and resulted in multi-year periods living in the US, Russia, Ukraine, the UK
and Spain. Earle is passionate about the continued growth of New Horizons and the success of
each and every franchisee in the network.

Chris Eden

Executive Vice President, Global Operations & Chief Development Officer


Fifteen years experience with leading high street retailers in the UK and a further fifteen years
International service in the sales, marketing and development sectors place Chris at the forefront
of global advancements. Chris oversees the management of centre operations and overall
business development strategy for the franchise network in all 70 countries.

Mike Smith

Vice President, International Operations


As a former New Horizons franchise General Manager, no one is better placed than Mike to
support you from launch and ongoing. Mike works closely with our franchisees from day one;
consulting on their business performance, coaching and training their staff, developing business
plans and assisting with large enterprise or complex business opportunities. He also works
very closely with our major supplier partners such as Microsoft and Cisco to make sure our
franchisees have all the accreditations they need and are fully aligned with the suppliers. This
ensures they can exploit business opportunities in their individual markets.

Scott McDaniel

Senior Director, International Development


With over 15years in the franchise industry and New Horizons, Scott is a rare breed of
professional. He guides and supports new franchisees through their decision-making process to
make the journey as smooth and well informed as possible. Scott is a specialist in new business
start-ups and developing the brand into new regions and even countries. He is committed to the
future expansion of the New Horizons brand and network to ensure its success.

Charlene McEniry

International Operations Manager


Charlene worked in a New Horizons franchised centre for 14 years before joining the Head Office
support team in 2014. As a result, she has first-hand experience of the day-to-day challenges
that sometimes need to be overcome and offers true insight and practical guidance. Charlene
supports our franchisees with whatever they need, be it assistance recruiting or training staff,
refining your websites or helping with supplier partnerships.

What we actually look for
We look for candidates who are commercially and financially qualified to develop
and support a single training centre or a network of training centres within their
territory. At this level of business, were looking for high-calibre ongoing organizations and
individuals who are commercially driven, with solid local business knowledge and a desire
to dominate the local market.
In an ideal world our franchisees would all have management experience to grow a
successful business, with the skills you would naturally expect to accompany such an
organization or individual: sales, team leadership, operational management etc. Prior
ownership of a business is highly desirable but not mandatory.
What many people dont realise is that whilst a basic understanding of the industry and
a level of technology knowledge would be beneficial, these skills are secondary to basic
business acumen!
