CONCLUSION

This project aims at introducing inspection and various testing methods to understand its
purpose and importance in industries especially in fabrication industry. During the
project, the study had been made in following areas: 1. Welding Methods (SMAW, GTAW & SAW)
2. Welding defects
3. Visual and Dimensional inspection
4. Codes & Standards (ASME BPVC Codes) Section IIA, IIC, V, VIII Div. 1 & IX
5. Destructive Testing methods (Tensile, Impact, Bend, Hardness etc.) witnessed
also
6. Various NDT methods (DPT, RT, UT & HT) DPT & HT witnessed also
7. Painting (Surface preparation and thickness check) witnessed also
In the government as well as private industry, welding is widely used by metalworkers in
the fabrication, maintenance, and repair of parts and structures. While there are many
methods for joining metals, welding is one of the most convenient and rapid methods
available. In order to ensure its quality, the welding shall be flawless. For increasing the
reliability of the equipment, all the defects/flaw shall be detected as early as possible and
correct/repair has to be done before handing it over to client. It is only necessary to repair
defects that are considered detrimental to the structural integrity of the equipment. Welds
dont have to be perfect. They need simply be within the acceptable working limits
specified by the quality control code being used during the weld inspection. These
acceptable limits have been mentioned in various codes and standards. For welding of
Boilers & Pressure Vessels, ASME codes are being used by various industries, esp.
fabrication industry, all over the world. It is one of the most reliable and time tested code
written for quality control of welding and related activities.
NDT also plays very crucial role in ensuring the quality of the weld joints. By using this
NDT tool we can easily detect the defects & its location and subsequently repair can be
made wherever it is necessary to do so. By doing this we can prevent accidents which can
be aroused due to these defects. This technology is having huge benefits and it should be
used by every industry for ensuring the quality of its incoming raw material and finished
goods.
This study reveals that the sound weld joint is necessary to ensure the integrity of the
equipment so that it can serve its purpose. After studying the various inspection and
testing techniques, their applications, advantages & limitations, it can be concluded that it
is a very important tool for the modern industries. It helps in a great way to operate these
industries economically, safely with high reliability and produce quality end-products
which is the ultimate goal of any industry.
