Introduction
In formulating the Harare District strategy for this year the District committee focused
on five objectives which are; spiritual growth, fellowship, evangelism, social
responsibility and financial responsibility. In attacking these objectives three key
questions had to be asked which are; where are we, where do we want to go and how
do we get there.
This publication shall define each objective as it was understood at the meeting. It
shall also indicate where we are on each objective, where do we want to go and how
do we get there.

Method
In formulation of our strategy the committee held a meeting with Pastors, advisers,
youth leaders and youths in our District.
A platform was given to everyone present to air their views on the objectives under
discussion.
The information disclosed in this document was obtained from the contributions
made by our youths in Harare East District.

1.OBJECTIVES

Growth implies a process of increasing or maturing. In this context it refers to

how a person matures in spirit.
The spirit that works in every Christian is the spirit of God. As Christians we
need to abide by the word of God because we acquire facts about Christianity
from the word of God. Spiritual maturity becomes the moment when one lives
according to the word of God. As we meditate upon and learn from the word of
God we increase our understanding of the things of the spirit which will
eventually lead to Spiritual Growth.

The products of the spirit are not invisible but they must be seen. The Holy Spirit
is like the wind, you cannot see or touch it but u can feel it, hear it and see its
effects. The effects of the spirit on someone must be seen. People must see the
products of the spirit in you. As we grow in spirit it must change us, we must
become followers of Christ and learners from Christ.
Rev Manzanga stressed out that spiritual growth has no dichotomy (a division or
contrast between two things that are opposed or entirely different.) between the
soul, spirit and mind. What you do in the spirit must be also in the mind. The
Holy Spirit must transform you, however a spiritual mature person must be a
follower of Christ ( Mark 12), must be someone who learn from Christ (Matthew
11v28-30 and 1Corin 13v15). We must also remember that there is a struggle in
Spiritual growth.
In our context the indicators of spiritual growth are paying tithes, attending all
church activities in time, contributing towards offerings and subscriptions,
participation in church programs, working for the lord in various ways and above
all the word of God is fundamental to our growth, we have to hunger for the
word of God.

It is sharing the word of God to those who do not know the word.
There is a difference between evangelism and follow up, follow up is whereby one
checks on a particular person who already know god but is no longer attending
church activities. Evangelism can be done via the phone or social media or in person.

It involves how people of the same group with the same beliefs relate to each other.
It is the interaction of people in various contexts for example youth games, church,
all nights etc. It is also strengthening parties (each other) in Christ
Spiritual maturity is seen with how someone fellowships with people.

It is being able to sustain yourself financially. Being independent in matters to do with

money and also to finance ourselves and phase out finance/money as a reason for
not doing things of God.

It is taking care of one another e. g our pastors, the needy, our youths etc. It can also
be defined as commitment or attention we give to the community or environment,
e.g. weddings and funerals.

2. WHERE ARE WE
This question sought to highlight the current position of the youth group or the
problems and challenges that we are facing as a youth group. To get to any destination
you have to know where you are first. So we had to discern our current position before
we move forward.

WHERE
ARE WE?
(present situation)

No zeal and appetite of the word of God.

No zeal for our church activities and therefore we
do not support our church and youth activities.
Lack of selfdiscipline during service and other
church activities.
Lack of commitment.
Irresponsible
We feel like Church is boring, while we sit and do
not take initiative.
Youths only become active towards and during our
youth conference especially in choir competitions
only that is where our full level of participation is
seen only after that we are idle.
Lack of punctuality
We have little knowledge about the word of God.
We exclude ourselves from the ministry we dont
take ownership of the gospel.
We are far behind in growth, rather retrogressive
(especially in word, tithing, even singing and
worshiping God).

WHERE ARE WE?

Youths are not involved in evangelism.

There is lack of knowledge on how to evangelise.
The kind of lives or rather our fake christianity scare
us away from evangelism.
We are too reluctant

(present situation)

WHERE ARE WE
(present situation)

Our current situation on fellowship programs is not

bad but quite okay, however more can be done.

WHERE
ARE WE?
(present situation)

Doing nothing, just sitting at home (dependancy)

We wait for our debts to grow and then cry foul,
we must be able to pay up as little as 50c
consistently
We are lazy, shunning some opportunities
Kusarongeka- working late all times
Being stingy
We are failing when it comes to our finances, we
are not improving on how we contribute to church
things
We have no jobs therefore no money
We do not prioritise God's things
We think the church is asking for too much or it is
misusing the money
We think we are not part of the people to
contribute for example saying its those in
leadership who must pay
We are not committed to support the activities of
our church
Seems people are not proud to be a United Baptist
Church member, and a question was posed ARE
WE PROUD TO BE IN UBC?

We are still lagging behind or rather stagnant.

WHERE ARE WE
(present situation)

3. WHERE DO WE WANT TO GO AND HOW DO

WE GET THERE.
This part joins together the two questions where do we want to go and how do we
get there. These questions aim to reveal the direction or the goals that we seek to
achieve and the strategies we have to implement in order to reach our ultimate
objectives.

WHERE ARE
WE GOING?
(goals)

An active youth group that participates in all

church activities.
To improve on being time conscious and also
meeting deadlines.
To have a spiritually mature youth group,
which encourages others in spiritual growth.
Encouraging others into action, it starts
individually e.g. praying, fasting
increased Youth participation in Sunday school
and bible studies

HOW DO
WE GET
THERE?
(stratergies)

The district representatives will ask the Pastor and

advisers to communicate to youths individual by
individual and encourage counselling on spiritual
matters.
youths will be encouraged Understanding what we
do and what we ought to do i.e. what we are we
doing it for?
Encouraging others into action, it starts
individually e.g. praying, fasting
Leaders should leading by example
The commitee will liase with local churches to
have seperate Sunday school teachers for youths
and introduce more discussable and interactive
topics
We are going to have our own publications to
increase spiritual or biblical literature especially on
certain issues being faced by youths.
We are going to adopt a reporting and followup
system on activities occuring in each local and also
encouriging each other to do more.
Local commities shall set up accountability systems
i.e. registers in attendance of some functions like
Sunday school and church services, a monitoring
and evaluation system which will assess the
growth (Accountability mechanisms)
Youths are encouraged to break bad cycles, and
shape each others attitude to support the
ministry.
Youths are encouraged to speak out, seek
guidance and talk to our leaders and develop a
relationship with them.
Locals youths must meet more often and create
more youth days and interactive programs for
youths.

Please note that the District committee resolved to start a District Choir which shall
meet when possible to improve our singing during church services and praise and
worship. This choir shall be assisted by Elizabeth, Knowledge, Celani and Rodrick. A
musical concert shall also be planned when the choir is up and running.

Our goal is to become a vibrant youth group actively

involved in evengelism.

WHERE ARE
WE GOING?
(goals)

HOW DO WE
GET THERE?
(stratergies)

It was resolved that youths should also attend the

MUHAMBO WEVAKWEYI. Evangelism is fully taught
at muhambo, so youths must join them for it is for
everyone.
We must set up evangelism goals at our locals that
one should work on for example setting a date that
by end of August every youth must have
evangelised to someone and bring him/her at
church
Youths are encouraged to lead a life that evangelise
not a life which is hard to trace whether one is a
Christian or not.
One must understand why he/she was saved or
why he accepted Jesus as his/her personal savior.
Local committees are expected to make sure they
followup on youths who are nolonger comming to
church.

WHERE ARE WE
GOING?
(goals)

The main objective is to increase and maintain fellowship,

intermingling and agape love among youths.
Singing-choirs-music, Music concert e.g. Ubc got talent
Variety of programs which cross-cuts the needs of
everyone in the group.
Invite other churches, locals districts on fellowship
programs.

HOW DO WE
GET THERE?
(stratergies)

WHERE ARE
WE GOING?
(goals)

We can improve by having more of youth activities e. g

all nights, games, braai, bible quizzes

Encouraging increase in attending other district's
events.
Youth Day at Local and District level
Being friends with each other and trying to know More
about our collogues
Visiting other locals and Districts
To know where other Youth stay and often visit
Programs that compliments and unites not those
which condemn and set us apart

Targeting beyond our budgetary obligations

Learn to give the little we have
Directing our money towards Gods ministry rather spending it on
food like chicken slice and clothes and also electronics.
To be self-reliant
We must come up with strategies of how to use our money wisely

HOW DO
WE GET
THERE
(STRATERGIES)

We can have piece jobs like marikicho

We can sell things
We must learn to value our own things for no one will
value them for us
In terms of our youth budgets it is better for the
district committee to allocate an certain amount that
individual should pay per year but these amounts to
active members willing to work and must be done ater
the district receive the conference budget and then
divide it among to active youths
Let us involve our senior friends in our activities, they
will support us well
Accountability mechanisms like registers
Massive follow ups
Thinking out of the box about how can we get out of
dependence
Doing some projects e.g. car washing, t-shirts
Kupa padoko-padoko eg 50c a week
Prioritizing things of God with the little money we
have
Committing ourselves
Pledging towards the ministry according to what we
have
Teaching people what the money intends to do and
achieve and also to show the progress and results of
such money rather than just paying pasina result
inooneka.
Record keeping for audits and reviews (transparency
and accountability)
Commitment
Travelling and observe what other Youths from other
churches are doing it.

WHERE ARE WE
GOING

golden age
