I. Installing the MUX Driver


Step 1 Select an installation directory.
Ensure the following files are contained in the current diractory: muxp.inf, mux_mp.inf,
mux.sys, and mux.dll.
Step 2 Open the Network Connections window.
Step 3 Right-click the Local Area Connection icon and choose Properties from the shortcut menu.
Step 4 In the Local Area Connection 2 Properties dialog box, click Install.

Step 5 In the Select Network Component Type dialog box, select Protocol and click Add.

Step 6 In the Select Network Protocol dialog box, click Have Disk.

Step 7 In the Install From Disk dialog box, click Browse and select the muxp.inf file mentioned in
Step 1. Click OK.

Step 8 In the Select Network Protocol dialog box, select Sample Mux-IM Protocol Driver and
click OK.
The MUX Driver is installed.

The Windows will display a message "This driver is not digitally signed!" every time you click OK. The
message is inevitable because the binary files generated when the WDK constructs environments are not
signed.

In the Network Connections window, a new network connection is generated with the device
name Sample MUX-IM Virtual Miniport Driver. If your computer has two NICs, two new
network connections will be generated.

II.Enabling Network Services of Carrying VLAN


IDs in Packets Sent Through the Connection
Sample MUX-IM Virtual Miniport Driver
Step 1 Right-click the connected connection Sample MUX-IM Virtual Miniport Driver and
choose Properties from the shortcut menu.
Step 2 In the Local Area Connection 3 Properties dialog box, click Configure on the General tab.

Step 3 In the Sample MUX-IM Virtual Miniport Driver Properties dialog box, click the
Advanced tab and set the Value of VLAN ID.
Each FO NE has been allocated a default VLAN ID before being delivered. The FO NE can
be managed only when the VLAN ID is set to the default VLAN ID allocated for the FO NE.
When the VLAN ID is set to 0, the function of carrying VLAN IDs in packets is disabled for
TCP packets sent by the NIC of the computer.
When the VLAN ID is set to a non-0 value, the function of carrying VLAN IDs in packets is
enabled.

III. Setting the IP Address of the Sample MUXIM Virtual Miniport Driver
The service port on an FO NE has a factory default IP address (and a factory default VLAN
ID). To manage FO NEs using the Web LCT, the IP address of Sample MUX-IM Virtual
Miniport Driver must be in the same network segment with that of the FO service port.
Assume the IP address of the FO service port is 130.9.6.22. Then, you can set the IP address
of the Sample MUX-IM Virtual Miniport Driver to 130.9.6.23.

IV. Connecting the Computer to the FO NE


Directly
Use a common network cable to connect the FO service port (RJ45) to the NIC of the
computer.
