Intoday'ssocietywehavesomanythingsthatcauseuptogetstressedout.Forexample
thissemestersprojectonstresscanandwillcausestressformanystudents.Butthereisnoneed
toworryaboutit.Becausethroughoutthiscoursewehavediscussedmultiplewaysthatwecan
manageourstressinpositive,healthyways.Thedifferentwayswecopecaneithermakeor
breakus,goodcopingskillswillallowustotakeonmoreworkandnotlettheloadwearus
down.
AwaytocopewithstressisAerobicexercise,whenweexerciseourbrainsreleases
serotonin.Thischemicalhelpstoalleviatestresslevelsandliftourspirits.Byoneestimate,
moderateexerciseaddnotonlyqualityoflife(Moreenergyandbettermood)butalsoquantityof
lifetwoadditionalyears,onaverage.(Myers412)Exerciseisnotonlyusedforstressreliefbut
forbetterqualityoflife.Therearesomanydifferentwaysthatexercisecanimproveyourquality
oflife,youwillhavelesshealthproblemsandyouwillfeelmoreawake.Whenyouputgood
intoyourbodyyouwillalwaysgetgoodout.Weneedtotakecareofourbodies,thiswillhelpto
boostourselfesteemandthuscausingonelessthingforallofustoworryabout.
ThisisoneofthecopingmechanismswhichIpickedtouseforthesemesterproject.
OverthepastfewweeksIhavetakenonaveryheavyworkloadwithschoolandmyjob.SoI
decidedtogotothegymandgorunningafterIgotoffofwork,anditwasreallyhelpful.Even

thoughiwaslimitedontimeithelpedmetofeelmuchmorerelaxedandawake.Inoticedalarge
differenceinjustafewdays,andexercisewouldhavebethemosthelpfulformeinmylife.I

atsixinthemorning,thenIdroveovertothegym.Iwouldexercisefor45minutes,typically
cardio,running,biking.Exercisingreallyhelpsyoutofeellikeyouaredoingsomethingright,it
helpsyoufeellikeyouvegotyourdayofftoagreatstart.Takingcareofyourbodyhelpsyouto
feelmoreconfidentandmoreindependent.
Anotherhelpfulcopingmechanismfordealingwithstressismeditation.Ifoundthisone
tobemorehelpfulthanexercise.Iusemeditationforstressrelief,sittinginaquietroomwith
yourlegscrossedandyourmindawareofeverything.It'shardtoexplaininwords,youare
awarethatyou'reawareandyounoticethatyouarenoticingyourthoughtsandemotions.You
arelisteningtotheinnervoiceinsideofyourheadandjustobservingfromwithinyourmind.
Youlistentothisvoicethatneverstopstalkingandthatnevertakesaside.

howtocalmthebodyandmind.AndsofortheprojectIappliedsomeofhisteachingsandideas.
Iwouldmeditateanditfeelslikeyourespacingoutbutyouareawareofitatthesametime.It
hashelpedmealottotakestressandmylifeintoperspective.Whatyoullsee,ifyoustudythis
carefully,isthatthenarrationmakeyoufeelmorecomfortablewiththeworldaroundyou.Like

WhilepracticingmeditationIcouldfeelthestressmeltawayfrommylife,withmy
awarenessIwas/amabletoquietmymind.Theideaofstressisjustyourmindtryingtomake
youpanic,butifyoucanignoretheinnervoiceIwonthaveaholdonyourlifetellingyouwhat
tothinkandwhattofeel.Justwatchandyoullseethatyourmindisalwaystellingyouwhatto
do.Ittellsyoutogohere,butnotthere,andtosaythisandnotthat.(Singer150)Ourpsycheis
themaincauseofstressinmyopinion.Weneedtolearntoletlifeflowfreelyandwillinglylet
go.
ThethirdcopingskillthatIusedisSpirituality.Iwonttalkonthissubjecttoomuch
becauseofitcontroversyintodayssociety.IamamormonandsoIrelyonmyreligonalotin
mydaytodaylife.Prayingandattendingthechurchmeetingsreallydohelpwithstress.Putting
ourfaithintothebeliefwillallowustoliveourliveswithlessstressknowingthattheirisa
higherpower.ReadingthetextthatgoeswiththeLDSreligiongiveshope,andgivesusthe
chancetofeelcomfortinthewordsandteachingofthechurchofficials.Listeningtothe
teachingsandobeyingtherulesgiveusthepowerandconstantcompanionofthespirit.WhichI
knowhashelpedtogetmethroughsometoughtimes.BeingaLDScomeswiththecallingsand
responsibilitiesthatallowustofeelinvolvedandwanted,andthatfulfilsthebelongingtearof
thepyramid.Wealwayshavesomeonetoleanon,whenwegetstressedwehaveaconstant
friendthatunderstandsusandknowswhatwearegoingthrough.

stressfulthanIhadanticipated.ThemostStressfulportionofthewholeprojectwastheessay.As
isitheretypingthisIhavebeentryingtousetheskillsinvolved.Suchaslettingtheinnervoice
takeabackseatandjustletthewordscontinuetoflowthroughmejustasIhavelearnedtodo

withmylife.Butoveralltheprojecthasvalidatedallofthethingsthathavejustbeenexpressed.
Iamcalm,nolongerstressed.IhavereachedinnerpeaceandIhavebeenabletoutilizeeachand
everyskill,andIamdefinitelygoingtocontinuetousethemthroughoutmylife.Iam
determinedtolearnallIcanaboutmakingstressworkforme.Ihavechosennotrelytooheavily
onthetextbook,althoughveryinsightfulitseemstoberedundant,itgivesinformationforface
value.Iwanttodigdeepandusetheinformationfromthecourseandthenmakeitmyown
perspectiveanddemonstratehowmymindworksandmythoughtprocess.
TheSummerstressprojectstressedmeout,Ivieweditasthishugeearthshatteringtask.
AsIwasatthegymoverthepastfewdaysIponderedallofmythoughtsandwatchedhowmy
mindwouldpanicatthethoughtofwritingfivepages.ButIwasabletoformulateaplanand
carryoutthewholethinginitsrawform.ThishasopenedmyeyesandmindtoeverythingthatI
wasnotseeingorrefusedtobelievethatIcoulddo.
