ERP is an industry acronym for Enterprise Resource Planning.

Broadly speaking, E
RP refers to automation and integration of a company s core business to help them
focus on effectiveness & simplified success.
Oracle Applications comprise the applications software or business software of t
he Oracle Corporation.
Oracle's E-Business Suite (also known as Applications/Apps or EB-Suite/EBS) cons
ists of a collection of enterprise resource planning (ERP), customer relationshi
p management (CRM), and supply-chain management (SCM) computer applications eith
er developed or acquired by Oracle.
Bajaj Electricals bagged the CSI 2010 IT Excellence Award for its ERP Implementa
tion program by Computer Society of India.
The previous stratergy was causing hindrance to core business operations, as gr
owth was fast but the legacy systems weren't able to support it. At places, thes
e systems were more than 12 years old and it was becoming costly and difficult t
o maintain them. Even the supporting technology platforms had become outdated. H
ence it was decided by the management to initiate a project that will focus towa
rds improving business processes with IT systems.
Before implementation of this project, inefficient processes resulted in revenue
loss as there were no forecasting or planning tools available. Plus, legacy sys
tems were not built to support current business processes.
They decided to implement ERP, SCM, CRM & BI applications together with complete
integration taking a big-bang approach. The Oracle Business suite of applicatio
ns was selected for implementation, and the project was named 'Project SMILE.' T
his is an acronym for the objectives to be achieved:

These challenges were overcome by implementation of the following products: Orac


le E-business Applications (ERP), Oracle Siebel CRM Applications, Oracle Demantr
a Demand Management Tool for demand forecasting, and on top of these apps, busin
ess intelligence solutions like Oracle Daily Business Intelligence and Oracle Bu
siness Intelligence Enterprise Edition for Sales Analytics, Dashboards & Reporti
ng (OBI) were also implemented.
Post deployment, the company has been able to get the investment payback achieve
d within the first year, and just from the savings coming out from one module ca
lled Siebel Dynamic Pricing Module. The company can now make right items availab
le at the right time with Advanced Supply Chain Planning solution, which has red
uced the overall inventory in the pipeline and also improve the company's abilit
y to service customer orders. The overall inventory losses have been brought dow
n by 2% due to this.
