Fire Fighting Equipments designed according to


UNE 23.500-90 and CEPREVEN R.T.2.-ABA/1999 Standards

DESCRIPTION

HYDRAULIC DIAGRAM DESCRIPTION (JED)

The great effort to normalising and standardizing made in the


UC Series has developed in a wide range of automatic pumping equipment for fire fighting services consisting on pumps,
motors, starting and switch boards, valves, collector and common base plate, design according to UNE 23.500-90 Standard
and CEPREVEN RT2-ABA/1999 technical regulation. The
characteristics of the UC Series are:
- Compact design for an equipment studied to Fire Fighting
services.
- Duty fulfimente of the in force UNE Standard as well as the
CEPREVEN technical regulations commonly requested by the
Insurances Companies.
- High performance as a pump package: up to 260 m3/h rated
capacity and up to 95 mcw rated head. Bigger performances
with independent modules.
- Modular design that allows to select any kind of combination:
jockey pump wiht one of few main electric or
diesel pumps.
- Effective cooled motors.
- Ease of installation and minimum maintenance.
- Assured quality to be designed and manufactured according to ISO-9001, certificate by
LRQA Lloyds Register Quality Assurance.
The compact and standard UC Serie, include horizontal
pumps IN Series according to DIN-24255. Regarding the pressures and capacities or regulations: ITUR pumps manufacture
Fire Fighting Equipments with vertical pumps BEV Series, with
split casing pumps CP Series, or under another international
regulations (NFPA-20, APSAIRD, F.M., etc.)

APPLICATIONS
The field of applications for the UC Series fire fighting automatic equipments from ITUR pumps extends to all kind of installations for fire protection that call on water as an extinction
agent combined with foam and need to be pressurized so they
are very appropriate in:

The diesel motor cooling circuit has been carefully designed by


ITUR pumps to achieve an effective, simple and safety system. The only system that provides an adequated cooling for
the diesel motors in their lower compartments by means of a
heat exchanger using the driving water itself for the primary circuit.
The ITUR pumps hydraulic design disregard the electrovalves
and their filters to avoid risks on motor overheating (coils may
burn out, electrovalves or filters may clog, etc.). Is guaranteed
that the main tank will not get empty through the primary coolant circuit:
a) Gravity feed tank nearby the equipment: connecting
sending back the water to the tank through its upper part.
b) Gravity feed tank far from the equipment: connecting
the returning water to a suction point without any problem
with the inlet air because the tank is gravity feed.
c) Suction tank: sending back the water through its upper
part (the suction tanks are always nearby the pumps).

EQUIPMENT MAIN COMPONENTS


AUXILIARY PUMP "JOCKEY"

Is part of the auxiliary circuit. Keep the fire


system pressurized restoring small leaks
that might happen but it does not provide
enough water to face a fire because is a
pump with a small flow.
They are high pressure multicellular pumps.
Start and stop automatically following a
pressure switch measured between two
values: maximum/minimum.
In order to check the leak level in the fire
system , the control board is supplied with a
starts meter counter for the Jockey Pump.

Recommended solution. Provided that would be feasible to return the water to the tank through its upper part.
If it is not possible to return the water to the tank, connect in any point of the suction pipe.

MAIN PUMPS
On base to the design (horizontal or vertical) and the rated flow
provided, three types are available.
1.-Horizontal pump: axial suction and radial delivery. We
use the ITUR IN Serie pumps standardized design DIN24255 and high performance. For higher pressures we use
the ITUR NM Serie pumps standardized to ISO-2858 (EN22858).
The materials used are of the highest quality. All the friction
parts (shaft sleeve and wear rings) are made of materials
corrosion resistant (stainless steel or bronze). The high
resistant shaft can be made of steel carbon (with stainless
steel sleeve) or stainless steel.

Standard pump casing: cast iron GG-25.


Special pump casing: nodular (GGG-40) or bronze.
Impeller: bronze (GSnBz10)
Wear Rings: bronze (RG-7)
Shaft: steel (F-114) or stainless steel ( ASIS-316)
Shaft sleeve: stainless steel ( AISI-431B)

The coupling with the


motor is semi-flexible
type with spacer. It
allows access to the
pump interior without
the need to remove
the pipes or the

2.- Split case horizontal pump.


We use the ITUR CP Series pump, axial split case design with the
suction and discharge flanges on line. It is used for high capacities and pressures up to 15 bar.Used materials used are the following:
- Pump casing: GG-25
- Impeller: GG-25 (optional GSnBz 10)
- Wear rings: GG-25 (optional RG-7)
- Shaft: AISI-431B
- Shaft sleeve: AISI-431B

The designs with screw shaft conection


incorporate a non-spinning device, either
for diesel and electric motors.
The electric motors can be with solid shaft
or hollow shaft. In the case of solid shaft,
the coupling is semi-flexible and the coupling lantern holds the roller bearings. In
the case of hollow shaft the coupling is
rigid and the operating efforts are taken by
the roller bearing themselves.
The coupling for diesel motors is made by
means of gear drive head where the roller
bearings and the non-spinning device are
located.

PUMPS PERFORMANCES
The performance curve must cover the
nominal design point, nominal flow (Qn),
nominal head (Hn) and other points as
indicated in the UNE-23.500/90 Standard
and the CEPREVEN R.T.2-ABA/1999
technical regulation, that means:
- The pump will provide at least 140% of
nominal flow to a head higher 70% to
the nominal head.
- The motor power is the same or higher
to the maximum pump input power in
any point of its curve.
The coupling is flexible with axial split membrane for easy
dismantling. The automatic vent valve is assembled on the top of
the pump.

3.- Vertical line-shaft pump.


We use the ITUR-BEV Serie of pumps vertical submersible
design consisting on casing pump, column pipe with shaft, dis
charge head and motor coupling. They are very useful when the
main tank is under invert and avoid the unpriming of the pumps in
the surface.
These pumps are made of the following materials:
- Standard case and cells: cast iron GG-25.
- Special case and cells: nodular GGG-40 or bronze.
- Impellers: bronze (GSnBz10)
- Pump shaft: stainless steel ( AISI-316)
- Suction strainer: Stainless steel ( AISI-316)
- Column shaft: steel (F-114)
- Column shaft sleeve: stainless steel (ASIS-431B)
- Column roller bearing: neopren
- Standard column pipe: Steel F-111
- Special column pipe: Stainless steel (AISI-316)
- Standard discharge head: cast iron GG-25.
- Special discharge head: bronze (RG-5)
For seawater pumping, different materials are used, suitable for this
service (pump casings in bronze, shafts, pipes in stainless steel, etc.)

ELECTRIC MOTORS
I.E.C. standardized asynchronous motors IP-65 protection and
Class F insulation.
The nominal power for continuos service S-1 for a Class F insulation heating required by R.T.2.-ABA/1999 is approximately 10% higher than that reflected in the nameplate for Class B heating. Upon
request, heating resistances are supplied.

OTHER COMPONENTS

Industrial type for stationary service, four stages, diesel cycle,


injection, refrigerated by water in dual circuit with exchanger and
the following components:

Equipment common baseplate. For equipment up to 150 HP


with centrifugal horizontal pumps IN or NM type.

Discharge enclosed diffuser cones. Designed to decrease the


water speed smoothly.

Heat exchanger and expansion gear.


Air, oil and fuel filters
Flexible and exhaust silencer
Belt cover
Electric starter
Dual battery set
Two power buttons for emergency
Alternating-current with outlets W,D and B
Electromagnet for stop
Magnetic capsule for overspeed.
Water temperature transmitter

- Tachometer (rpm)
- Hourscounter
- Thermometer (water motor temperature C)
- Pressure gauge (oil motor pressure in Bar)

Check valves, located in the pump discharge designed to get a


low loss of load.
Spindle gate valve, located in the pump discharge of the main
pump.
Relief or safety valves. Measured to a lower pressure than the
maximum one the pump is operating in order to avoid fault when
working without capacity.

Net power of diesel motors, higher than the maximum absorbed


power of the pump, is determined by the curve DIN-6270 A, at the
duty speed (rpm).
The fuel tank has enough capacity for ensuring a minimum of four
times the autonomy required by the most demanding system. It is
provided with an external visual level with isolating valves, emptying valve, level indicator for transmitting an alarm at 60 % capacity, and upper outlet for venting.
The feed piping outlet is located more than 20 mm from the bottom of the tank, and the motor connection is performed by means
of flexible pipe protected with metallic mesh.

Pressure switch and pressure gauge. High quality, and adjusted from factory. Besides the starter pressure switch, we install another ones for security in the discharge of each pump to control the
pressure once the pump is working.
Hydroneumatic accumulator. Stamped at 10 or 20 Bar according to the equipment rated pressure.
Discharge collector. Ready for a maximum water speed of 3 m/s,
with a by-pass deflection to reduce the load loss and avoid turbulences.
Testing set.Is optional. Consists of by-pass deflection, wide
curve of 90, spindle valve and flowmeter. This one is provided to be
installed in the pipe test that returns to the main supplying tank.

2 Starter and control board for

3 Jockey pump.
With a small flow and high pressure keep the fire system pressurized. Incorporate a startmeter
counter in the board to check the
leaks in the hydraulic circuit.

4 Main electric pump.


With a high performance standardized according to DIN-24255,
with a spacer coupling. High quality materials, according to UNE
and CEPREVEN Standards.
I.E.C. electric motor, IP-55 or IP23 protection, isolation class F.
With heating resistor on request.
The motor power is the same or
higher to the maximum pump
input power on its curve.

5 Main diesel pump.


With a high performance standardized according DIN-24255, with
a spacer coupling. High quality
materials, according regulations.

6 Dual battery set.


For alternative operation during
the starting sequences. The control board incorporate charging
set, alarms and instrumentation to

7 Emergency pushbutton.

Specially rigid with welded angular sections and four bolts to hang
up the equipment during transport

9 Diffuser cone.
Located in the discharge of the
main pump in order to decrease

10 Safety pressure valve.


Measured to a lower pressure
than the maximum one the pump
is working to avoid operation without capacity.

11 Check valve.
With a very low loss of load.

12 Spindle gate valve.


Allows to see its situation visually
(open/closed). Require more than
two handwheel turns until its opening or closing is completed.

13 Discharge collector.
Designed for a maximum water
speed of 3 m/s. The by-pass to
the pump are deflected to reduce
the load loss and avoid turbulences.

14 Hydroneumatic accumulator.
Stamped at 10 or 20 bar according to the equipment rated pressure. It is located behind an isolation valve.

15 Starting pressure switch.


For the Jockey pump
(starting/stop) and for the main
pumps (only starting, stop is
manual).

16 Safety pressure switch.


Located in the pump discharge to
verify there is pressure when the
pump is working or give the alarm
in case there is not pressure.

17 Pressure gauge.
High quality with glycerin inside.

18 Sealed valve.
Adjust the flow to the exchanger.

20 Fuel Tank.
It has enough capacity for
ensuring a minimum of four times
the autonomy required by the
most demanding system.

21 Set of Tests.
Optional supply upon request. It
includes collector bent branch, rising
stem valve, 90 bent and flow
meter. This one is supplied separately for installing in the return piping.

STARTING AND CONTROL BOARDS FOR ELECTRIC PUMPS


Manufactured according to UNE-23.500/90 Standard and the CEPREVEN R.T.2-ABA/1999 technical regulation, incorporating
improvements studied by ITUR Pumps that do not figure in such specifications.
The electric pump board include devices for starting and control of Jockey pump and main electric pumps. Consists on:
Cabinet. Fabricated in metal plate, painted in
red, with its respective indicating labels.
Main disconnecting switch with safety interlock to avoid access inside the board in case
the current has not been disconnected.
Include padlock position to prevent the
switch-on board when working with the equipment.
Protection by calibrated fuses.
Controller sequence relay and phase failure.
Control the right sequence in the three electric
lines (R-S-T) and a phase failure.
Pumps starters.
Voltmeter with phase converter. Usually in
the main leading-in current.
Incorporate audible alarm. With independent battery and charging set. In that way is
possible to get audible and visual alarms without tension.
Emergency stop button. Stop the pumps operation even when the pressure switch is giving
starting orders. Once pushed you must turn
the selectors to position 0 and "automatic".
Numbered wiring. The electric diagram provided with the board keeps the numbered
wiring.
Jockey pump signalling panel consisting of:
- Visual signal ( lmparas) indicating:

ITUR panel front view board for starting and control of electric
pumps. The clarity, order of the alarms and panel control make the
things easier at first glance.
Inside, the numbered wiring, an electric diagram copy and a high
quality equipment give safety to the board and to the Fire Fighting
Equipment itself.
The alarms either visual or audible do not stop the equipment. The
only way to stop it is manually with the STOP push button if is not
request or with EMERGENCY BUTTON if there is any danger for
people even if is request: in this case we have to set the selector in
0 and again in automatic in order to make the equipment operative.
If the equipment consists only with electric motors, the board is
fixed to its supports and these ones to the base plate. If is a diesel
motor, in order to avoid vibrations the board is supplied with three
meters of flexible wiring fixed to the supports with a base. In both
cases, the equipment is totally connected.

STARTING AND CONTROL BOARDS FOR DIESEL PUMPS


Manufactured according to UNE-23.500/90 standard and the CEPREVEN R.T.2-ABA/1999 technical regulation, incorporating
improvements studied by ITUR Pumps that do not figure in such specifications. The automatic program has starting sequence
of 6 cycle, consisting each of them in a starting try of 15 seconds and one break until the next try of 6 seconds, using in each
cycle one or other battery set. The board consists on:
Cabinet. Fabricated in metal plate, painted in
red, with its respective indicating labels.
Two battery charging set with protection.
Voltmeter. Indicate the battery voltage.
Commutator-Voltmeter. To check the voltage
in the batteries A or B.
Two anmeters. One for each battery.
Audible alarm. Feed by the batteries.
Two Push buttons of Manual starting.
One for each battery.
Emergency stop button. Stop the pumps
operation even when the pressure switch is
giving starting orders.
Numbered wiring. Related with the electric
diagram in the board.
Commutator-4 positions: 0 - MAN - AUT TEST (testing the starting cycle)".

things easier at first glance.
Inside, the numbered wiring, an electric diagram copy and a high
quality equipment give safety to the board and to the Fire Fighting
Equipment itself. The connectors to connect the remote control
alarms are numbered and ease of identification.
The alarms either visual or audible do not stop the equipment. The

request or with EMERGENCY BUTTON if there is any danger for
people even if is request: in this case we have to set the selector in
0 and again in automatic in order to make the equipment operative.
To avoid the vibrations from the diesel motor, this board is supplied
wiht three meters of flexible wiring fixed to the supports with a base
and totally connected.

COMPACT EQUIPMENT ADVANTAGE


The advantages of an ITUR compact equipment are many:
- Each pump is tested in the test bench, where we obtain all
the curves performance values.
- The equipment is assembled in the factory and tested again
with all its accesories. We check all the starting possible
sequences, board operation, visual and audible alarms, etc.).
- The equipment arrives to its destination with a perfect packing with instructions and diagrams.
- The only thing is needed is to connect the equipment to the
fire network and to the electric current. The rest is done.

ITUR Pumps manufacture the equipments UNE & CEPREVEN on a common baseplate with all the accessories tested
and connected, for horizontal pumps (IN) with power up to 110
kW (150 HP) because the total volume equipment can be
carried by usual means.
For higher powers or other pumps or more than two main
pumps we supply them on independent baseplate for collector
equipment, valves and accesories and for the boards. In these
cases the whole equipment is re-assembled in the factory and
tested before dismantle, pack and transport.

Compact Fire protection equipment ITUR type UC-130/80-JED, made up of jockey pump, main electric pump of 55 kW and main diesel pump of 56 kW.

Fire protection equipment ITUR made up of two split casing main diesel pumps of 220 kW, arranged in separate foundations.

ITUR Pumps is CEPREVEN member and has a highly qualified personnel certified by CFPA-EUROPE. We manufacture
as well equipments under request with other Standards or technical regulations. Consult our Engineering Department.
