Aims: - to review and reinforce food vocabulary and to improve the writing and
speaking skills;
- to encourage creativity and use of imagination through vocabulary games;
- to encourage both individual and pair/group work;
- to stimulate competition between students;
- to get students to have fun with English.

Objective: By the end of the lesson the students will be able to define words, to
make comparisons between Romanian and English food and to express
themselves without hesitation
Teaching aids/materials: power-point presentation, worksheets, crosswords,
puzzles, food cards , board, notebooks, dictionaries.

ASSUMPTIONS:
- Students must have a satisfactory level of English;
- Students must be eager to participate.
ANTICIPATED PROMBLEMS AND POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS:
- If students do not understand the oral commands or the tasks, they will be
translated into Romanian.

STAGES:
I. WARM-UP

Aims: to create a pleasant atmosphere and to relax.


Interaction: teacher students
Procedure: The teacher greets the pupils and then checks if there are absents.
Timing: 3 minutes

Activity 1: Frontal and individual activity


TRADITIONAL ENGLISH FOOD

POWER POINT PRESENTATION

Timing: 15 minutes
Aims: - to review words which belong to food vocabulary and to present the
students the British traditional cuisine
-to have an interactive speaking and to develop the students speaking skill
- to have each student involved in the activity
Teaching aids: word list containing some of the food vocabulary taught during
previous lessons

Procedure: The teacher presents the students a complex and interactive activity
and video about the typical English food. While watching the pictures, the teacher
asks students to describe each picture they see, making a comparison between
British and Romanian cuisine. At the end of the presentation, there is a little
questionnaire that encourage students to express their own opinion and express
themselves.
For example:
1. Do you like British food?
2. Do you drink tea for breakfast?
3. What time do you have dinner?
4. Do you eat roast potatoes every day?
5. What is your favourite dessert?

Activity 2 : Individual work

Aims: - to review words which belong to food vocabulary
Teaching aids: notebooks, board, dictionaries
Procedure: Teacher gives the students the following task: Write down what
you consider to be the three most delicious dishes in your country. Then, they
will have to read aloud what they have written on their notebooks.

Aims: - to express their opinion and use the adjectives to describe food

Procedure:
In pairs , try to agree on a word or sentence ending to finish the following
sentences. Change partners and repeat (it is unlikely new partner answers will be
the same, therefore lots more agreeing to do).

Activity 5: Individual/pair work


How to be polite when you are sitting at the table

Interaction: T SS
Timing: 3 minutes

Purpose: - to talk about eating rules and how to be polite


Teaching aids: notebooks, their own experience
Procedure: Teacher asks the students to mention which are the rules they have to
respect when they are sitting at the table or they have guests.
For example:
Dont blow your nose at the table or
Dont speak too loud

Timing: 8 minutes
Aims: - to practice the words they have learned and to distinguish between some
food categories
-to choose the correct answer

Teaching aids: worksheets and coursebook


Procedure: Teacher gives the students a worksheet and asks them to work in
pairs. Then, the teacher asks the students to open their books at page 63.
They have to read some proverbs which are connected with food and to
match the two halves of each proverb. Then, they will have to explain the
meaning of each proverb.

- to develop the students writing skills

Teaching aids: word list containing some of the food items taught during
previous lessons, dictionaries

Procedure: Make a shopping list, using the following recipe:
