ThisisanareathroughwhichthemobilecanmovewithoutachangeofservingMME.EveryMMEpoolareaiscontrolledbyoneor
moreMMEsonthenetwork.

TheSGWserviceareas
This is an area served by one or more serving gateways SGW, through which the mobile can move without a change of serving
gateway.

TheTrackingareas
TheMMEpoolareasandtheSGWserviceareasarebothmadefromsmaller,nonoverlappingunitsknownastrackingareas(TAs).
TheyaresimilartothelocationandroutingareasfromUMTSandGSMandwillbeusedtotrackthelocationsofmobilesthatareon
standbymode.

ThusanLTEnetworkwillcompriseofmanyMMEpoolareas,manySGWserviceareasandlotsoftrackingareas.

TheNetworkIDs
ThenetworkitselfwillbeidentifiedusingPublicLandMobileNetworkIdentity(PLMNID)whichwillhaveathreedigitmobilecountrycode
(MCC)andatwoorthreedigitmobilenetworkcode(MNC).Forexample,theMobileCountryCodefortheUKis234,whileVodafone'sUK
networkusesaMobileNetworkCodeof15.

TheMMEIDs
EachMMEhasthreemainidentities.AnMMEcode(MMEC)uniquelyidentifiestheMMEwithinallthepoolareas.AgroupofMMEsisassigned
anMMEGroupIdentity(MMEGI)whichworksalongwithMMECtomakeMMEidentifier(MMEI).AMMEIuniquelyidentifiestheMMEwithina
particularnetwork.

IfwecombilePLMNIDwiththeMMEIthenwearriveataGloballyUniqueMMEIdentifier(GUMMEI),whichidentifiesanMMEanywhereinthe

TheTrackingAreaIDs
Each tracking area has two main identities. The tracking area code (TAC) identifies a tracking area within a particular network and if we
combiningthiswiththePLMNIDthenwearriveataGloballyUniqueTrackingAreaIdentity(TAI).

TheCellIDs
Eachcellinthenetworkhasthreetypesofidentity.TheEUTRANcellidentity(ECI)identifiesacellwithinaparticularnetwork,whiletheE
UTRANcellglobalidentifier(ECGI)identifiesacellanywhereintheworld.
Thephysicalcellidentity,whichisanumberfrom0to503anditdistinguishesacellfromitsimmediateneighbours.

TheMobileEquipmentID
The international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) is a unique identity for the mobile equipment and the International Mobile Subscriber
Identity(IMSI)isauniqueidentityfortheUICCandtheUSIM.
TheMtemporarymobilesubscriberidentity(MTMSI)identifiesamobiletoitsservingMME.AddingtheMMEcodeinMTMSIresultsinaS
temporarymobilesubscriberidentity(STMSI),whichidentifiesthemobilewithinanMMEpoolarea.

FinallyaddingtheMMEgroupidentityandthePLMNidentitywithSTMSIresultsintheGloballyUniqueTemporaryIdentity(GUTI).
