CongressmanKevinCramercontinuestheelectionyeartraditionofabusingthe
frankingprivilege,inordertosubsidizehiscampaignfundswithtaxpayerdollars.

Fargo,N.D.JackSeaman,LibertarianCandidateforU.S.Congress,calledon
CongressmanKevinCramertodirecthispartisancampaigncommitteeto
reimbursehiscongressionalofficeaccountforthecostoffrankedmailthat
blurredthelinebetweenofficialcongressionalbusinessandcampaign
propaganda.(Animageofthemailinginquestioncanbefoundatthebottom

KevinCramerclaimsthatheisafiscalconservative,butthisuseoftaxpayer
fundsforwhatbasicallyamountstocampaignpropagandaprovesotherwise.
Mr.Cramershouldimmediatelypaybackthecostofthesemailings,Seaman
said.
Inaresponsetoanunnamedconstituent,CongressmanCramerdisclosed
howmuchwasspentonthismailing,andexactlywhichfundingsourceswere
usedtopayforit:

Member'sRepresentationalAllowance(MRA),whichisallocatedtoeach
CongressionalofficeundertheLegislativeBranchAppropriationsAct,passedin
1995.MRAisageneralfundthatcanbeusedforthingssuchasofficesupplies,
computers,printing,employeepay,officialpostage,andrentandutilitiescostsfor
theofficesinNorthDakota.
TheCoffeeWithCramersaretownhalleventsthatallowconstituents,particularlyin

moreruralareas,todirectlyengagetheCongressmanonissuestheydeemare
important.TheCoffeeWithCramermailersareawaytoletfolksknowthatthey
haveopportunitiestoattendthetownhallstosharetheirconcernsandask
questions.

CramerwantstoactlikeheisaherototaxpayershereinNorthDakota,while
heuseshisowncongressionalofficefundsinquestionableways.Those
positionscontradicteachotherinaveryobviousway.
"ItissimplynotenoughtoattackDemocratsandPresidentObamaaboutthe
wayWashingtonworks,andthenoperatethesamewaythatWashingtonhas
alwaysworked,"Seamancontinued.Frankingscandalshappeninnearlyall
electioncycles,butcandidateswhoportraythemselvesasprotectorsofthe
publictreasuryjusttoturnaroundandabusetheirprivilegesshouldbe
questionedbythetaxpayers.
"NorthDakotaneedsafederaldelegationthatrealizesthatourcountryneeds
realleadersthatdon'ttrytosneakthingsbywhentheythinknooneispaying
attention.Wellguesswhat?Impayingattention.
