LAD2 Course Syllabus

Course Description
Welcome to Language Arts Developmental 2! This course is designed for
students to learn essential academic vocabulary along with reading and critical
thinking skills which assist them in comprehending grade level texts. The
reading and writing process is fully integrated with an emphasis on expository
texts which will provide students with the necessary literacy skills to succeed in
their content area classes.
The class will integrate reading, writing, listening, speaking, research, and
technology into lessons, exercises, and assessments, thereby assisting students
in mastering the Common Core State Standards, passing the CELDT, and in
preparing for their future in high school, college, and beyond.

Objectives
Reading: Students will be able to read, analyze, and discuss a variety of text.
Writing: Students will be able to write essays using academic
vocabulary/language. (Language Functions: Explanation/Description,
Compare/Contrast, Cause/Effect, Proposition/Support, and Sequence)
Speaking: Student will be able to orally present information they have learned
in partners, groups, and the class.

Expectations
* RESPECT your classmates, your teacher, your school, and yourself.
(unnecessary talking, disrespectful behavior, and any type of other class
distraction will not be tolerated)
* Bring ALL materials to class
* Attend class daily and be on time (5+tardies=U)
* Maintain a positive attitude
* No food, drinks, or gum in class (water is okay)
*Cell phones or other electronic devices must be kept turned off and in
backpacks
*All rules and policies outline in the North Salinas High School Student
Handbook are also in effect.

Citizenship
Any breaking of classroom rules leads to an infraction.
0-2 infractions = Outstanding (O)
3-9 infractions = Satisfactory (S)
10+ infractions = Unsatisfactory )U)
*Failure to earn a passing grade will result in a citizenship mark of unsatisfactory due to poor work ethic.
Receiving a U, be it from negative behavior, 5+ tardies, or a poor grade, can result in a students
exclusion from clubs, sports teams, field trips, dances, and other school events.

assignments you missed from the board. You will have
the same number of days to make up work as you were
gone.

Descripcin del Curso
Bienvenido a lengua y literatura del Desarrollo 2 ! Este curso est diseado para
que los estudiantes aprendan el vocabulario acadmico esencial junto con la lectura
y las habilidades de pensamiento crtico que les ayudan en la comprensin de
textos de su grado . El proceso de lectura y escritura est totalmente integrado con
nfasis en los textos expositivos que proporcionarn a los estudiantes las
habilidades de alfabetizacin necesarias para tener xito en sus clases del rea de
contenido. La clase va a integrar la lectura, escritura , escuchar, hablar , la
investigacin y la tecnologa en lecciones, ejercicios prcticos y evaluaciones , de
ese modo ayudar a los estudiantes a dominar las normas estatales comunes ,
pasando el CELDT , y en la preparacin para su futuro en la escuela secundaria , la
universidad , y ms all.

Objetivos
Lectura : Los estudiantes sern capaces de leer , analizar y discutir una variedad de
textos . Escritura: Los estudiantes sern capaces de escribir ensayos utilizando
vocabulario / lenguaje acadmico . (Funciones del lenguaje : Explicacin /
descripcin, comparacin / contraste , causa / efecto , la Propuesta / Apoyo , y
Secuencia ) Hablando : El estudiante ser capaz de exponer oralmente la
informacin que han aprendido en parejas , grupos , y la clase .

Reglas de la Clase
* Respete a sus compaeros de clase, su profesor , su escuela , y usted mismo.
(Charla innecesaria , la falta de respeto , y cualquier tipo de distraccin otra clase
no sern tolerados )
* Llevar todos los materiales a clase
* Asistir a clase todos los das y llegar a tiempo (5 + tardanzas = U)
* Mantener una actitud positiva
* No hay comida , bebidas , o chicle en clase ( el agua est bien )
* Los telfonos celulares u otros dispositivos electrnicos exige que stos estn
apagados y en las mochilas
* Todas las reglas y polticas de contorno en el Manual del Estudiante de
