Peace Corps Togo is seeking an individual for the position of
Communication Specialist
OPENING DATE: July 15, 2016
CLOSING DATE: July 29, 2016
WORKING HOURS: Full Time: 40 hours per week
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
Under the direct supervision of the Peace Corps (PC) Country Director (CD), the Communications
Specialist will work with subject matter experts, including PC staff and Volunteers, to produce post reports,
fact sheets, case studies, success stories, and other communication and outreach materials for both
internal and external audiences. In addition, some of these resources will be produced and distributed via a
range of media (e.g., print, Web, social media), and may often require quick-turn-around activities or
products.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (estimated 70%)
Work with subject matter experts to prepare communication and outreach material for print as well
as online publications, including interviewing experts and/or reviewing and revising text;
Conceptualize, develop, and produce outreach and research products; Develop and write clear and
concise case studies, success stories, reports and publications, for Peace Corps and its
stakeholders; Gather and fact check (through interviews, observations, research) information
regarding story development for high profile and high visibility documentation;
Develop quarterly and annual communication specialist work plans that detail activities planned,
resources needed and timelines anticipated.
Outreach with local media to advertise major initiatives and successes and to inform host country
nationals of the Peace Corps mission in Togo. Outreach with Togo Returned PCVs to foster a
sense of pride and continuity of mission, and to connect currently serving volunteers with potential
financial resources
Write press releases in French and English;
Shoot videos and photos at designated Peace Corps events and various venues, obtaining
intellectual property rights releases for all subjects published.
Conceptualize and propose design of the PC/Togo annual report. Lead the team responsible for
contributing content and edit all final content in English and French; Contribute to the design and
content of post and program document.
Create promotional materials as needed, such as brochures, PowerPoint and video presentations,
posters, pamphlets
Broadcast our work via special media campaigns around international days dedicated to specific
themes or events such as International Womens Day.
Liaise with the US Embassy Public Affairs Office on behalf of Peace Corps/Togo in the preparation
of press releases, talking points for Embassy personnel, social media posts, and media coverage
of Peace Corps events and projects
Website and Social Media (estimated 30%):
Contribute content to the official websites of PC headquarters, PC/ Togo and US Embassy Togo.
Photograph, film, report and/or edit Peace Corps Volunteer (PCV) project media for publication;
Identify high value content via PCV outreach and other sources. Establish and manage PC/ Togos
social media presence on YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, Flicker, Pinterest, etc..
Review content of unofficial PCV media sites to help identify projects to feature on official PC
media outlets as well as to ensure that the sites comply with PC policy guidelines;
Design messaging to target top-tier applicants for Volunteer recruitment; In conjunction with PC
staff, respond to messages from the public and PCVs, connecting them to the proper resources;
Anticipate and adapt to media trends to share new information effectively with a wider audience.
