Introduction
Have you ever wondered how organisms live and survive with one another? Well, you
are going to embark on a journey to raise awareness on how the relationships between
organisms impact each other and the environment. How are the interactions between
organisms and the environment imperative to survival?
In this lesson, students will be able to differentiate between organisms
surviving in their environment and how they coexist with one another.
Learners
This lesson is anchored in 9th grade biology and involves how organism coexist in the
environment. This lesson can be conveyed into extended practice such as worksheets
and videos with the students summarizing what they have learned.
The students do not need much prior knowledge. Students should know the definition of
an organism.
Curriculum Standards
SB4. Students will assess the dependence of all organisms on one another
and the flow of energy and matter within their ecosystems.
a. Investigate the relationships among organisms, populations,
communities, ecosystems, and biomes.
Students will learn how an organism functions in an environment with other organisms.
In addition, students will learn how the flow of energy and matter function within the
ecosystem. Students will use critical thinking skills to convey how organisms interact in
different relationships. These relationships include: predator-prey, competition, and
symbiosis.
The Cognitive Level includes, creating, evaluating, analyzing, applying, understanding,
and remembering the content of the lesson.
Process
To accomplish the task, Student will:
1. Select one of the three interactions between organisms (Predator-prey, symbiosis,
and competition) to complete the webquest.
2. View all of the links provided.
3. Design your brochure incorporating what you have learned from the interaction
between organisms of which you selected.
4. Complete your brochure and turn it in.

This lesson is organized by a step-by-step process on what the students task is and
how the student will complete a relationship between organisms brochure. This lesson
is for one 9th grade biology class and it is taught in one period of the day. This is a
single-disciplinary class. Students will be working individually on their brochure.
The skills that the teacher needs to know to pull off the lesson is to understand and
comprehend the material fully in order to convey it to the students.
Variations
The student may also do an oral presentation on their brochure.
Resources Needed
Students will need access to a computer or laptop in order to access videos and
websites in the lesson.

Evaluation
I will grade the lesson based on the rubric provided to the students to convey that he or
she was successful at understanding the lesson on organisms interacting with each
other and the environment.
How the brochure will be evaluated.

Conclusion
This lesson will teach students the importance of how organisms interact with one
another in the environment.
Make some kind of summary statement here about the worthiness of this lesson and the
importance of what it will teach.
