THE DURABLE AND CLEAN SOLUTION
Armaflex EDL Foil-faced and self adhesive sheeting for insulation of
equipment cabinets, ducting, storage tanks and pipe work.

Product Description
Armaflex EDL is a foil-faced elastomeric thermal insulation, supplied with a high performance self-adhesive backing. It is
constructed from Armacells proven FR/Armaflex insulation material. Armaflex EDL is suitable for insulation of equipment
cabinets, storage tanks, and air-conditioning ducts. Its superior-grip Pressure Sensitive Adhesive system makes it
applicable in non-pinned field applications. It is also highly suited for raised-floor or under-floor air-conditioning systems.

Condensation Control
Armaflex insulation provides excellent control of condensation. The thickness required will depend on the ambient air temperature, the
relative humidity in the environment, and the temperature of the surface to be insulated. The level of airflow around any insulation will
also affect its control of condensation.
The surface characteristics of insulation material will affect its performance. Insulation that is covered with a shiny metal surface
needs to be used in greater thickness than insulation with a black or non-reflective surface. Insulation with a shiny surface will reflect
radiant heat, causing the surface to become cooler. To prevent the dew point occurring on the materials surface (this is the point where
condensation occurs) any metal-covered insulation must be used in greater thickness than insulation with a black non-reflective surface.
The foil-facing on Armaflex EDL provides many benefits; the surface is highly resistant to fire, it is easily cleaned to provide hygienic and
aesthetic advantages, and the foil provides an additional vapour barrier. In selecting the materials thickness the effect of foil should be
recognised, and the material applied in greater thickness than standard Armaflex.
If you have any questions about your particular application, and the thickness of material required, please contact Armacell for Technical
Service and recommendations.

General Instructions
Armaflex EDL is highly flexible and can easily be wrapped around a duct, cabinet, vessel or large-diameter pipe work.
For very thick material (25mm), and for internal lining of small areas, it can easily be cut and fitted as small sheets.
The backing material is a pressure-sensitive adhesive, and requires the application of pressure across all areas to
complete the bonding. Care should be taken to align the material, as it cannot be removed after the adhesive bonds
and cures.

Installation Tips
1

The temperature of the air and of

the insulation should be between
10C and 35C at the time of
installation.

Surface to be covered should

be cleaned of all loose material,
dust, grease and oil. Use a
commercial degreaser and
solvent wipe.

Square off sheet along an edge

or corner. Press the sheet to the
surface taking care not to trap
any air.

Cut with sharp knife.

Peel back enough release liner

to start.

Reach behind the Armaflex

sheet and peel liner back while
pressing the sheet to the surface.
Remove the entire liner piece.

Press firmly. Butt joints require

the use of compression to
prevent the possible opening of
seams.

All joins in Armaflex EDL should

be sealed with a high-grade
aluminium foil. When using
non-foil faced sheeting, ensure
all exposed edges and joins
are sealed with Armaflex 520
adhesive.

Note: For further information consult the Armaflex Installation Manual

Armaflex Around Ducting

1

For cladding of ducts, insulate

the base first, then the sides,
and finish with the top. This
ensures a cleaner appearance
and eliminates seems at the top,
where moisture can drop down.

Roll a cylindrical object across

the material repeatedly to apply
solid and even pressure across
all the adhesive system.

The top should cover the side

edges, leaving no exposed
seems on top. Use a brush
to force Armaflex adhesive
between all joins to complete the
vapor seal.

Standing ribs can be insulated

with strips of sheet Armaflex that
are built-up around the area.
Alternatively ribs can be insulated
with Armaflex pipe-insulation that
is cut in half and mitred at the
edges.
