EW1845: Logic to Close PV254-3 to Prevent PE Trip in High Pressure
Raised by: FA Biongcog (PED NCP)
Target Completion: 15 July 2016
Objectives: The intent of the proposed logic is to prevent high pressure
trip of PE in case of 2 PE trains running initially
and 1 train suddenly trips
Recommendations (as of Rev 2):
The logic in closing PV254-3 can be beneficial in preventing B/L overpressure during
PE2 Reactor kill (PE1 Reactor is stable) and during PE1 Reactor kill provided PE2 is at a
high rate. But with low PE2 rate and PE1 Reactor kill, the possibility of overpressure
can still exist ( See Scenario 5 to 8 at Table 4)if there are no improvements with the
control of PC6201.
Therefore, it is recommended to modify the logic to close PV254-3 during Reactor Kill
at specific condition (with consideration on total C2 flow, process status of NCP &
Polymer). It is also recommended to improve the C2 pressure control, PC6201, at the
NCP side to prevent over-pressure at the polymer battery limit.
It can be noted that in the future, if all of the HP C2 demands of PE1 and PE2 will be
directly supplied by NCP, the logic proposed in this study may no longer be utilized.
Improvements in pressure control at the NCP side should be studied.
