Introduction
This assignment presents two different online performance-based performance
assessment instruments which are going to be analyzed in order to two assess two
systems of languages (Grammar and Vocabulary)

Grammar

This instrument provides tutorials which students can learn the following topics:
verbs tenses, conditionals, modals, gerunds, prepositions, articles, mini-grammar
tutorials, Irregular verbs, Phrasal verbs Intro & Dictionary and Verb+ Preposition
Dictionary. Each section contains: a header which help students understand the
importance of a particular section; an introduction which presents the topic,
explains it step by step and give examples of the different rules related to the
specific topic and the last part of each section is exercises which they are filling the
gaps out with a particular word and gives students the percentage which they have
reached in each section. Moreover, this website is ordered alphabetically.
This instrument is so useful for advanced students because it convers almost all
topics related to grammar, this instrument is also friendly and easy to use in any
computer. Additionally, this instrument has the format of common lessons at school
which helps students because they are already familiar with the format. Moreover,
this instrument provides student a good tool because it contains several exercises
related to each section and also includes cumulative exercises (combined
tenses).Furthermore, this website in order to help students to find information
about any word or topic related to each section because it is order alphabetically.
In terms of authenticity, the language uses in this instrument is realistic due to it
has exercises connected to the real world. Furthermore, the instrument provides a
tool which the grammar is applied in sentences where they are connected to the
world. Additionally, the grammar, which is used in this website, will help students to
use it in the real world; topics are also well divided and contextualized which are
organized alphabetically.
Washback is presented positively because it is a tool which can be used outside
the classroom and also helps students to strengthen their knowledge. However,
this instrument does not provide a helpful feedback due to it only shows a
percentage of how much students have reached in the exercises.
In terms of validity, this instrument assesses students with exercises which are
based on the examples given by this website.
In the case of reliability, students will get different results which depend on their
level. Besides, the results will vary depending on the conditions which students
take the exercises. Furthermore, in some cases , it can cause problems in the
students because some exercises are too long.

Vocabulary

This instrument helps advanced students to build up their vocabulary in different
topics such as: Personalities, Internet, Humor and so on. This website presents
vocabulary in charts with each word and their meaning and classified into:
Adjective, Adverb, Idiom, Noun, or Verb. Moreover, this website contains 2 types of
exercises: the first one, they are conversation exercises which students have to fill
gaps out with the missing word; the second are follow-up exercises which students
have to fill the gaps in with previous information related to the specific vocabulary.
This instrument is so useful for advanced due to it provides vocabulary in several
topics (20).The website provide a concise and ordered resource where advanced
students can improve their vocabulary and also strengthen their previous
knowledge. Moreover, this site offers an opportunity for learning new vocabulary
which students can get familiar with the format very fast because this site is easy to
use and students can go through it easily.
Authenticity is well present here due to the exercises are connected with the real
world, the topics are relevant and present in a real context. Moreover, the
vocabulary used in this site help student to build up more knowledge based on
exercises connected to the real world.
The washback is presented positively because it helps students to use it as a
complementary tool. Moreover, this site serves students because it give the
opportunity to the students to train their knowledge with exercises and offers them
a tool which they can learn new knowledge.
In terms of vocabulary the site assesses students use the same format (using the
examples which then are applied in exercises)
In the case of reliability, students can get different results according their level of
knowledge. Moreover , these results can vary according the conditions where they
are applied ( conditions of the computer , connection to the internet) and also
internal conditions (behavior , humor , level of knowledge and so on).Additionally,
the types of exercises can cause problems to students due to the site uses the
same format in all the topics, it presents the topics using too much text and their
paragraphs are too long without images, the format which uses the same
examples applied in exercises can cause students memorize the examples and
finally they are not going to learn.
