Part One

The affordable care act is one of the domestic policies recently discussed in th
e media. The act touches on American health care and comprehensive reforms on he
alth insurance. The primary actors of the law are the government and citizens wi
th the government expected to provide business owners as well as families and in
dividuals full control of their health care. The law which was vehemently suppor
ted by the president played a huge role in ensuring that he was elected for a se
cond term in office. Though it still faces numerous challenges in its implementa
tion it was a great political bonus for the president. The fight against terrori
sm is one of the foreign policies recently discussed in the media. The governmen
t s commitment to fighting terror is even stronger especially with the recent atta
cks in France. Politically, the fight against terror and America s vulnerability t
o terror attacks has been a topic of discussion for various presidential contend
ers. An example is Trump s suggestion to build a border wall with Mexico in order
to keep away immigrants that may contribute to terror attacks.
Part Two
Hobbes and Locke s beliefs are that of a social contract between the government an
d its people (Hobbes and Locke p. 2). In this case the constitution is the contr
act between the government of United States of America and its citizens. Through
the constitution, the government is expected to provide for national security a
s well as public goods. This explains for Hobbes and Locke s beliefs in relation t
o current policy on the fight against terror. Through the government s commitment
to fighting terror, it in the process protects its people as expected of them. H
ealthcare is a public good and thus the reason for the affordable care act as th
e government looks for ways to provide for healthcare to its citizens. These for
eign and domestic policies play a huge role in shaping the country s politics.
Response 1
The views by Hobbs and Locke are both pertinent and relevant to current American
issues. The country will always need governance, as citizens are not good enoug
h to live by themselves without following a particular set of rules or laws. How
ever, monarchial or aristocratic rule will be of more harm and the best way of g
overnance is democratic.
Response 2
In the current economic, political, and social conditions; the United States can
not afford to continue or create enmity with other countries. The approach by Ob
ama to make friendship with Cuba was well calculated and wise. The decision to a
lso lift the ban on haggis was also commendable. This is because as America ther
e is need to embrace the culture of other countries for good co existence among
