XS IBDP Concerns
1. Its going to be a BUSY year:
1. G11: Adjustment to the program, learning curve.
2. G12: Major assessments are due (i.e. EE),
college entrance tests / applications, etc.
2. Extracurriculars should promote commitment and
depth - quality, not quantity.

How can Parents Help?

1. Help him develop and stick to a reasonable study
schedule - spend one hour of study time offline.
SAT & College review may help, but should not
come at the expense of a balanced life.
Grit - passion & determination to achieve a longterm goal.
2. Support (or join) him in his CAS activities. Ask him
about it, how is he doing and how can he be
supported.
3. Manage your expectations of your son and his
abilities. IB can help in getting into colleges, but its
not a guarantee.

CAS
CREATIVITY

Arts, and other

experiences that
involve creative
thinking.

ACTIVITY

Physical exertion
contributing to a
healthy lifestyle.

SERVICE

An unpaid and
voluntary exchange for
underprivileged
communities.

Creativity, Action, Service

1. Purposeful activities with significant
outcomes.
2. Tasks should push the student beyond
comfort zones.
3. Thoughtful consideration, especially in
planning and reflecting.
4. Students should be supervised by an
adult (not related to the student), who can
attest to the students CAS involvement.
