Joruneisagreatsettingforgaming,buttheruleshaveseriousproblems,especiallythe3rdedition.
Othershaveworkedontheirownrulesconversions(Fuzion and GURPS areperhapsthemostwell
knownsystems),butIlike OvertheEdge.
OvertheEdge,byJonathanTweetandRobinLaws,isasimplesystemthatputsfarmoreattentionon
creatingcharactersthan on detailedcombatrules.Whiletherulesweredesignedforthesurreal
conspiraciessettingofAlAmarja,theyworkwellasgenericrulesformanygames.Hereismyworkover

GeneratecharactersasforOTE,withthefollowingmodifications.

ortheymayrolloneormoreishodiceandtaketheresultsofthatrollasthatdie'sshots.Keeptrackof
thisnumber;itiscalled"maximumisho."Inplay,thecurrentnumberofshotsistheamountofishothe
beinghasavailable,called"currentisho."Shotsareusedoffensivelyanddefensively.Insomecases,a
charactermayhavemoreshotsthantheirmaximumisho,buttheyriskinjuryintheprocess.(SeeCaji
Entropy,below.)Everycharacterthathasanishocharacteristichasmaximumandcurrentishoscores,

Dyshas:Whenacharacterwishestouseisho,theenergymustbewovenintoaform,usually anorb(a
smallball)orabolt(likeaminiatureboltoflightning).Onlytrainedindividualscancreate,orweave,
dyshas.Shantha,caji,dytepunks,andcharacterswhoselectedspecificdyshasassidetraitsarecapable
ofweavingdyshas;othercharactersarenot.
Eachcolorofishohasfivedifferentdyshaslistedforit.Duringcharactergeneration,theplayerofacaji
characterselectswhichdyshasthecharacterknows.Thecharacterknowsasmanydyshasineachcolor
