Managing People and Performance in

Organizations
Project Proposal Group 8
Project Title- Emotional Labour and Dissonance in workplace.
Introduction- Emotions play an important part in how employees
function during the work day. Emotional labour and emotional dissonance
reflect how challenging it can be for employees to maintain a helpful,
caring attitude - when inside, they may be dealing with negative personal
or work issues. Emotional labour is an indicator of how employees can
handle adversity at work if they let their emotions hurt their work.
Dissonance occurs when they are not able to control their emotions and
will create problems at workplace.

Objective- Through our project we intend to establish 3 major

components which will help us to understand Emotional Labour and
Dissonance in workplace.
1. Projection of one emotion while feeling another- emotional
dissonance
2. Feeling of frustration, anger and resentment can eventually lead to
emotional exhaustion and burnout.
3. Bad Performance An unhealthy emotional condition may lead to
hinder the performance of an individual at his workplace.
We would like to study the surface level and deep acting emotional labour
and the effect of the same in the workplace.

Method- Along with a detailed report, we plan to have a role play in the
form of a small skit as our final presentation. The group of 5 would in
detail analyse Emotional Labour and Dissonance in workplace and follow
the structure as mentioned in the objective. We would like to act a role
play to present the effect of emotional labour for a hotel waiter at his
workplace.

Also we will be doing a primary data collection of a hotel

waiter to understand the effect of emotional labour, based on which the

solution would be framed. This will help us to understand the concepts of
personality and emotions at work.
