Overview
The PI System Management Tools (PI SMT) 2012 SP1 provides PI System Administrators
with a SMT Host application and a suite of plug-ins that provide management functionality
for the PI Server. Also included is a tool to monitor the services and message logs for your PI
Server and PI AF Server, a tool to create and monitor your PI collectives, as well as Excel
add-ins to create, modify, and delete items in your PI Module Database, and your PI Points.
PI System Management Tools 2012 SP1 also includes the PI ICU for configuring your
interfaces. PI SMT 2012 SP1 allows users to access and manage multiple PI Servers at one
time.

Setup
Operating Systems
This release supports Windows XP, Server 2003, Vista, Server 2008, Windows 7, Server
2008 R2, Windows 8, and Server 2012.

System Prerequisites
Installation of an OSIsoft product on Windows relies on the presence of Microsoft operating
system components such as the Microsoft .NET Framework and Microsoft run time libraries.
OSIsoft Prerequisite Kits are available in three packages that verify and install the needed
operating system prerequisites:
Online: For installation on a computer connected to the internet. This kit connects to
Microsoft sites in order to download .NET Framework 3.5 for the operating system on which
it is run. This is a bootstrapper kit that is much smaller than the Standalone kit.
Standalone: For installation on a computer that cannot connect to Microsoft sites, or for
installations where such connection is not desirable. This is a full redistributable kit that is
much larger than the Online kit.
Legacy: This kit should only be used for installation on older operating systems where the
OSIsoft products do not require .NET Framework 3.5.
All three Prerequisite Kits contain both 32-bit and 64-bit installation redistributables.
See the Prerequisites Product Pages on the OSIsoft Tech Support Web site to determine
which MS Operating System prerequisites you need:
http://techsupport.osisoft.com/Products/Prerequisite+Kits/Prerequisite+Kits+Overview.htm

Server Platforms
PI SMT
Support for the various server versions depends on the plug-in being used. If a feature
provided by a plug-in is not supported on a particular server version, the user will be notified
of this by PI SMT. Most plugins are supported by PI Server 3.2 or higher.
PI System Tray
PI System Tray works with PI Server 3.4.375 or later, and PI AF Server 2.x.
PI Collective Manager

PI Collective Manager requires PI Server 3.4.375 or later.

PI Module Database Builder
PI Module Database Builder requires PI Server 3.3 or later.
PI Tag Configurator
PI Tag configurator supports PI Server version 3.2 or later.
PI Interface Configuration Utility
PI Interface Configuration Utility supports PI Server 3.3 or later.

Microsoft Excel Versions Supported

PI Module Database Builder and PI Tag Configurator support the following versions.
Microsoft Excel 2013 (32-bit)
Microsoft Excel 2010 (32-bit)

Installation and Upgrade

Setup Log File
Setup creates a log file, SetupPISMT3.log, in the root directory of the disk where
Windows operating system is installed (e.g. c:\SetupPISMT3.log). The log file lists the
details of the installation process and provides useful information for OSIsofts technical
support staff. Each time the install or uninstall executes, the file is overwritten. After a
successful installation, this file may also be found in the DAT subdirectory of
PIHOME. For example, in C:\Program Files\PIPC\DAT\SetupPISMT3.log.
Silent Installs
To install SMT silently and limit the plug-ins that are installed, some command line
arguments are required. These command line arguments can be specified in the
silent.ini in the entry for PISMT3.msi. For example, to silently install SMT without the
Alarms or the Batch plug-ins, the following command could be used:

REBOOT=Suppress ALLUSERS=1 /qn INSTALLALARMS=0

INSTALLBATCH=0
The INSTALLALARMS and INSTALLBATCH parameters are case sensitive. Here is a list of
all pismt3.msi specific parameters:
