INTERNSHIP ACTIVITIES
A) RESPONSIBILITIES HANDLED:

1. Managing Online Bookings:

Bookings done by travel agents on the B2B portal www.eonline.travel were monitored on a daily basis
to check bookings of future dates and deadline dates.
2. Preparing Quotations:
Queries received for packages from travel agents via email for their end clients were quoted with the
help of reservation department.
3. Hotel Reservations:
Checking the hotel rates on the portal, getting the best deal and offering it to client, at times we even
had to call the hotels for the commission rate.
4. Preparing an itinerary:
Customizing the itinerary, editing it according to the clients requirement, listing the do's and dont's of
the destination.
5. XIBE: XML INTEGRATED BOOKING ENGINE
XIBE is an online platform to get travel agents their own branding with an online booking engine. I
provided inputs for email marketing.

B) WORKING CONDITIONS AND FUNCTIONS

I had a routine to follow most of the time, like spending most of the time behind a desk , in front of the
computer preparing itinerary, making reservations , reverting to the queries and complaints and
consulting the clients

C) CHALLENGES

1. Internship period:
The periodic time of internship was little yet I had to cover a lot of things. The experienced received
8

by me while interning was enormous as compared to the period of the internship.

2. Long Working hours:
The company for which I had work had long working hours and there was not ample of time for own
personal activities. The work given to me was a lot and on some days I even had to work over time or
from home after my working hours.
3. Manual work
Being an intern I was not allotted a computer and hence all of my work had to be done manually most
of the time, thus making the work time consuming and challenging for me. The company been small
did not have enough computers and the latest technology thus making the time consuming and
inefficient.
D) THINGS LEARNT
1. INNOVATION SKILLS:
One of the most important things I took away from an internship is the new found knowledge, which
includes knowing how to fulfill tasks relevant to your desired career path. Not only that but it has also
helped sharpening and honing my skills already possessed.
2. NEW CONNECTIONS:
In addition to those people who I hope will act as references in the future, I have walked away from an
internship with a handful of new connections: senior employees, clients, fellow interns, etc.
These people can provide guidance and advice, helps you in future job searches, and may even
become friends.
3. A GREATER SENSE OF PROFESSIONALISM:
Working in an office environment or any kind of professional setting can be difficult to get used to and the best (perhaps only) way to learn how to navigate the working world is through real life, handson experience. After my internship, I have a better idea of the appropriate way to behave as a
professional and a sense of how to play the game.

INTERNSHIP ASSESSMENT
A) SKILLS LEARNT AND QUALIFICATIONS DERIVED

Learnt about public relations, client dealing and visited near buy travels.
Preparing and customizing the itinerary as per the need of the customers.
9

Learnt about Computer Reservation Systerm (CRS) and got the basic knowledge about CRS and
Galileo.

B) CHALLENGING RESPONSIBLITIES

Incapability to search the right offers and time taken by the costing team for map an itinerary
based on custom requirements of Guests was a challenging responsibility for me.

Enquiry Costing, Quote generation, quote editing, supplier follow-ups, all are time consuming
process for the travel company. It is a long process that a Company has to contact different hotels
(directly or through DMCs/Wholesalers) for reconfirmation of rates, vehicle rental agency and
costing team before give quotation confirmation to the guests.

Managing collection and updating the information of the hotels, tracking offers and promotion
provided by hotels need to be filed by the travel agents. Uninterrupted interactions with hotels and
know about their promotions and offers are very important for travel agents to know.

C) INFLUENCE AS PER CAREER PERSPECTIVE

FIND YOUR DREAM JOB:
We started the course with 2 broad segments Tourism & Hospitality. After completing 6 months
of internship in the Tourism Industry, I believe that I can advance my career in this sector. Thus, this
internship has helped me narrow down my professional focus to becoming a successful Travel Agent.
NETWORKING:
My internship has given me ample of opportunities to attend professional meetings. By interacting
with professionals Ive gained new connections and have learnt how to communicate in a professional
environment. Personally, my internships have introduced me to a lot of useful resources and have
given me the opportunity to meet a variety of professionals in the tourism industry. This networking
may help me acquire references in future and eventually, find new job opportunities.
RESUME BUILDER:
As a college student I have realized the importance of a strong resume. Without a solid resume it was
tough to be considered for a position. And how can one have a strong resume without any experience?
My internships were the keys to building experience as a student. After appearing for various
interviews Ive realized that the employers are much more likely to hire someone with internships and
work experience rather than someone with a generic resume, lacking experience. So the work
experience gained at the internships will give me an edge over other candidates.
CAREER FOUNDATION:
My internships have given me access to big multinationals in the tourism industry. Now-a-days,
employers often use internships as a recruitment tool to test out future employees and in many cases,
companies hire interns after graduation viz. through Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs).

WORK EXPERIENCE:
10

As per career perspective work experience is an integral part for a student or any individual. The
amount of experience of a person plays an important part in him/her getting job placement in major
companies. Thus, by interning in the company I have got a good experience and have got a good
exposure in the sector of tourism. I have learnt how technology plays an important role in tourism and
travel.
In my opinion, Internship is a great tool to improve ones chances as a job applicant and to become a
better potential employee. So I suggest everybody should make the investment in your career and look
into becoming an intern.
