9th Grade Data Analysis

Scoring Explanation
My goal for my 1st semester 9th graders stated: Students will be able to write a 5-paragraph essay
which includes 1) an introduction with 2) a clear, three-pronged* thesis statement; 3) body
paragraphs with concrete**, supporting examples; 4) and a conclusion.
I modified my goal for my 2nd semester 9th graders to state: Students will be able to write a 5paragraph essay which includes 1) an introduction with a clear, 2) three-pronged* thesis
statement; 3) body paragraphs with concrete**, supporting examples; and 4) a conclusion with a
call to action.
Unsatisfactory = achieved 2 or less of the requirements
Satisfactory = achieved 3 of the requirements
Exemplary = achieved 4 of the requirements
*A three-pronged thesis statement includes the students position along with three reasons to
support it.
**Concrete means that the supporting examples are based on real-world examples or
experiences. The examples are explained so that no further information is required by the
reader.
