Computer Science is a relatively new field with an expanding jobs market with multiple
applications in many industries. Jobs can range from technical support to software development,
but the really exciting thing about Computer Science is that you can even develop your own
career type. These jobs are just the foundation for which you can develop something new.

A more entry position at a company with a degree in Computer Science might be

working a help desk providing technical support to the companys employees. The job requires a
vast knowledge of how a computer and its subsystems work together to help troubleshoot and
repair problems. A tech support employee will also monitor computer usage and maintain the
companys computers and network.

A more advanced position in computer networking is a Network Systems Administrator.

A Network Administrator needs a Computer Science degree and handles many of the important
day-to-day operations of a companys network as well as planning, installing, maintaining and
monitoring network systems. The can also analyze and optimize the network for its users.

Many Computer Science majors will go into the job market looking to design and
develop software. That software will range for company specific software for their own internal
use, to software sold in commercial applications, to website and web application development.
This is probably the broadest and most financially rewarding area for a Computer Scientist to get
into.

At a basic level all Computer Science majors will be solving computing problems.
Developing algorithms is the corner stone for problem solving and programming. More

advanced degree holders can work on researching and developing more complex algorithms and
problem solving techniques and may even get into developing new uses for a computer system.

When a Computer Scientist works to develop new computer uses, they may create a new
use intentionally or inadvertently. An intentional development may come from a companys
desire to develop a specific product or application. An unintentional development may come
while trying to create something specific, but find a new use during research.

These a just a few examples of the many wonderful and exciting jobs out there for
someone with a Computer Science degree. There is no shortage of opportunity or career paths for
this area of study. The only limit is how far a person with a Computer Science degree is willing
to push themselves.
