LakeWallenpaupackisafreshwaterlakeinPennsylvania.ItisthethirdlargestlakeinPennsylvaniameasuring
52milesofshoreline,13milesinlength,60feetdeepatpoints,andhasinexcessof5,700acresofsurface
water.Itwascreatedin1926byPPL,thePennsylvaniaPower&LightCompany,forhydroelectricpurposesas
wellasfloodcontrolhowever,itisbestknownasoneofseveralmajorrecreationaldestinationsinthePocono
Mountains.ItislocatedneartheboroughofHawley,andformspartoftheboundarybetweenPikeandWayne
countieslocatedinnortheasternPennsylvania.AlsoknownasthesiteoftheBoozeCruiseonepisode11season

WilliamPennlaterownedthelandandthendeededittohisson,whothengaveittoJamesWilson,oneofthe
signersoftheDeclarationofIndependence.[2]
Inordertocreatethelake,PPLconstructedadamonWallenpaupackCreekatWilsonvilleandalevee(Tafton
Dike).Theprojecttook2700menalmosttwoyearstocompleteandsevenmonthsforthereservoirtofillafter
thedamwasclosedoff.ThelandofWilsonvilleandthesurroundingareainthevalleywaspurchasedbyPPL
fromabout100ownersatabout$20anacreandmostofthepropertywasrazedormoved.Somehouses

PPLmanagedthe3,300acresoflandaroundthelakeuntilJune2015.Whilehomeownershaveaccessrights,theymustapplyforpermitsforthingssuchas
landscapingtoinstallingexteriorlightsandcannotcutdownvegetationtoimprovetheirviewoflakeaprovisiontokeepthemanmadelakenatural.

Recreation
AnintegralpartoftheLakeRegionofthePoconoMountains,LakeWallenpaupackisbotharegional,aswellaslocal,recreationattractioninthetristatearea
(Pennsylvania,NewJerseyandNewYork),andispopularwithseasonalvisitorsfromtheNewYorkCityandPhiladelphiaareas,particularlyinthesummertime.
Thelakeprovidesboating,swimming,andfishingaccessinthesummer,aswellasiceskatingandicefishinginthewinter.Anotableactivityduringthewinter
monthsonLakeWallenpaupackisitsannual"IceTeeGolfTournament",whichtakesplaceonthefrozenlake.Thetournamentisa9holecompetitionhostedby
TheChamberofNorthernPoconos.[10]Itswoodedshorelinealsoprovidesopportunitiesforhikingandviewingwildlife.Lakefishincludesmallmouthbass,
largemouthbass,rockbass,bluegill,walleye,muskellunge,northernpike,pickerel,rainbowtrout,browntrout,laketrout,catfishandyellowperch.Stripedbass
andhybridstripedbasshavebeenstockedinthelake.Thelakeis13miles(21km)long,has52miles(84km)ofshoreline,andisabout60feet(18m)deepatits
maximumdepth.
