Teaching the prepositions vocabulary
Before class, put a thing inside the box. In
class, sit your students down and take out
the box. Shake the box and have your
students shake the box and ask the students
try to guess what is inside. Take out the
thing and introduce it to the class. Sit the
thing on the box and ask to students Where
is it?. Teach the preposition on and then
Its on the box. Do the same for the rest of
the prepositions (under, in, behind, next to,
in front of, between)
Practice the prepositions

which can be used to practice the
preposition (e.g. a pencil and pencil case/ a
book and bag). Have each pair/group ask
and answer questions using the
prepositions.
Play Where is / Where are ?
Take out a pen and elicit the word. Have
students close their eyes. Hide the pen
somewhere in the classroom (e.g. inside the
box). Tell students to open their eyes and
ask them Where is the pen?. Have each
students guess using the structure Is it
(behind) the (chair)?. When the pen is
finally found take out a pair of pen (can be
another things pair). Teach They are pens
and show the contras between Its and
Theyre. Again, have students close their
eyes as you hide the pens. Students try and
guess their location by asking question such
as Are they (under) the (desk)?.
Now put students in pair/group and have
each pair/group hide objects and ask where
things are using the prepositions and
structure.

Play Preposition Pictionary
Bring a student up to the class. Say Draw a
cat is on a car and the student has to draw
the picture based on what you say. Then get
the student who drew the picture to say a
new sentence and another student to draw
the picture. Keep playing so that everyone
has a chance to draw and say a sentence.
Close the class by reviewing prepositions of
place and giving some sentences that
describe the place of a thing on the
classroom.
