EDUC 480 - Mini-Lesson: Lesson Plan

Activities:

(Hook) To introduce the lesson I will play a French song/video on


YouTube called Ma Famille (Vocabulaire de la famille) by Alain Le Lait

Discussion with class about the song- what was the dong about? Did
you recognize any of the words?

Introduce Power point slide show called La Famille- practice saying


the names of family members and using mon and ma

Students will draw a simple family tree and label their family members
using French vocabulary- eg.) Mon pere Michael, ma mere Joy etc.

Group discussion about introducing family members using voici ma


mere. Elle sappelle_____. Or voici mon pere. Il sappelle_________-

Students will then get up and move around the room and introduce
their family to their classmates- (sentences will be up on the board so
students can refer to them when they need help)

Students will then be placed in groups of 4 or 5. I will hand out a piece


of paper to each member of the group with a family member name on it
eg.) pere, mere, frere, soeur.
The papers will also indicate something that each family member really
likes to eatthis is an extension of a previous lesson on foods.

Acting activity. As a group the students will be asked to come to the


front of the class and introduce themselves only using their name eg.
Bonjour, je mappelle and telling us what their favourite food to eat is
eg.) ma nourriture preferee a manger est_____
While the students are speaking they have to act out who they are in
the family and use the correct voice.

The rest of the class with guess who each member is and what their
favourite is

Extensions:

the lesson uses names of food in Frenchthis is an extension from a previous lesson

the current lesson can be extended to include the French words for uncle, aunt, grandparent and animal names for
pets eg. Cat, dog, fish

Adaptations:

As an adaptation for students who require some help I will provide handouts with the names of family members and
the possessive pronouns so that students can have them at their desks to look at.

For students who dont feel comfortable talking about their own family they will have the option to draw and an
imaginary family

During the acting activity, if students dont feel comfortable talking in front of the class they will have the option to ask
one of their group members to introduce them to the class instead.
