THE ICC CRICKET WORLD CUP

The ICC cricket world cup is the biggest

prize in the sports. Hosted once every four
years, the event first took place in 1975. To date,
there have Been nine edition of the ICC cricket
world cup, with Australia capturing the title a
record four times. It has won the last three
edition of the event in 1999, 2003 and 2007.
The ICC Cricket World Cup
history starts from the years 1975, when the first
world cup was held in England. Eight teams
participated in that world cup and it was a huge
success. West Indies were the winner in the
inaugural world cup. The final was between West
Indies and Australia. West Indies won the game
by 18 runs.
Cricket World Cup history then
witnessed the second world cup in the years
1979, once again in England. Again eight teams
participated in this event and once again West
Indies emerged as the winners. The format was
same as 1975. Final was between West Indies

and England. West Indies beat England by 92

runs.
History of cricket World Cup then includes
one of the most remarkable chapters in the
Cricket World cup history- Indian defeating the
mighty West Indies. Out of the eight teams, only
Zimbabwe was the minnows, Sri Lanka already
had the test status in the year 1982. Zimbabwe
defeated the mighty Australians, but Indians was
the real star of the tournament, as they come out
from a situation of 1725 against the minnows
Zimbabwe and then managed to defeat West
Indies by 43 runs.
The history of world cup took a
step outside England, as the tournament was
hosted for first time outside England. India and
Pakistan was the joint host of the tournament.
The final was between Australia and England
and the former managed to run away with the
title by just 7runs. This is still the closest World
Cup Final, when one considers the World Cup of
ODIs.

Cricket World cup history got richer and

richer, as the world entered into the fifth world
Cup. This time, the hosts were Australia and
New Zealand. With this, another venue was
added in the history of Cricket World Cup.
Pakistan was the new champions, pinning
England in a tense final that ended in a 22 runs
Pakistani victory. Imran Khan got retired after
winning the World Cup for his team. This time,
the number of team was nine.
With the 1996 World Cup, history of
Cricket World Cup was once again made on the
pitches of the sub continent, as India, Pakistan
and Sri Lanka were the joint hosts of the Cricket
World Cup. This World Cup got a new winner in
Sri Lanka. The minnows of the cricketing World
suddenly grew up to the levels of the big boys of
the game. They remained unbeaten throughout
the tournament, as they got a walkover against
Australia and West Indies, as both teams
refused to play in the island though, showed
what it takes to beat the best team of the
tournament, as they won the finals by 6 wickets
against the Australians.

Cricket World Cup history saw another U turn,

when the World Cup returned to England after a
span of 16 years. As the trend started from the
last World Cup that Australia would be playing
against a team from sub continent, Pakistan was
the finalist this time. Though, this wasnt their
days as they were bundled out for a mere 123 by
the mighty Australians. This World Cup victory
marks the reign of Australians Cricket over the
World of Cricket that lasted for almost a decade.
In 2003, Cricket World Cup history update a
unfolds the Drama in yet another world cup in
South Africa. The World Cup saw Indias nation
into one of the stronger sides of the world,
which got defeated to only Australia, twice; once
in the league games and the second one was the
finals. India lost the final to Australia by a huge
margin of 122 runs.
The 2007 Cricket World Cup in West
Indies marked the reign of another team victory
in the World Cup finals. Ago this a setback in
1996 Cricket World Cup with the teams between
Australia and a sub continent country, continued

as this time the finalist was Sri Lanka. Australia

defeated Sri Lanka by 53 runs to complete their
four straight World Cup victory and fourth World
Cup victory overall.
The History of cricket world cup
unfolded its brilliant chapter in2011. After a gap
of 28 years the Indian Cricket Team managed to
grab the World Cup in a tough Competition with
Sri Lankan Team.
Now, 2011 is the new benchmark. It
was the Best World Cup ever played, even if the
quality of some of the matches wasnt inspiring.
Amazing tie in the India-England encounter early
on hinted at the possibilities, but in the end both
the semifinal were disappointed cricket-wise.
Mahela Jayawardenes century-surel the innings
of the tournament-raised the tone of the final,
but there was little tension once M.S.Dhoni took
control over it.
And that final six hitted by Dhoni
was the iconic moment of the World Cup.
Television captured Dhoni in a superb close-up,
and the eyes had it. Like great poetry, there were

layers of meaning in that expression, and stories

that could be written separately about each
emotion so nakedly prcised the focus, the
pride, the sheer joy, happiness, confidence,
relief at the conclusion in this World cup. India
won the world cup after 28 year.

The final was at wankade stadium at the film city

of India Mumbai. Many film stars came and
enjoyed the final match between India-Sri Lanka.
At, first India lost the toss and Sri Lanka has
decided to bat first. Mahela Jayawardene gives a
good start to his team by making a century in
the final. After Sri Lankan team India comes to
bat with his opener Virendra Shewag and the
god of Cricket master blaster Sachin Ramesh
Tendulkar with lot of promise tendulkar has
come out to make his 100 hundred century in
International Cricket. At very first ball Virendra
Shewag got out LBW by Lasith Malinga after
some time sachin also got out by Lasith Malinga
India was in big trouble as they have lost their
first 2 wicket. Gautam Gambhir comes out and
save the Indian innings as soon as possible
Gautam Gambhir is going to reach his Hundred
but was bowled out by Perera. At last Dhoni
comes out and give his best performance in the
whole World Cup. Dhoni made 91 runs and hit
the final six at this India win the World Cup. It
was the dream of Sachin Tendulkar to win the
World Cup. Indian Captain was awarded Man-of-

the-match and Yuvraj Singh was the Man-of-thetournament. We wish to all team to their future to
