Dear Sir,
Application for the Yayasan Pahang Scholarship
My name is Ariana Dahlia binti Mukhriz and I am 18 years old. I would like to apply for the
Yayasan Pahang Scholarship which was advertised in the New Times on 30 July 2016. This scholarship is
needed to assist me throughout my time studying in the Medical Physiology program at University of
Malaya.

For your information, I come from a poor family. My father is a newspaper vendor and my

mother works as a sweeper in a school nearby. The total income of both my parents is only RM600 a
month. Part of this money is used for paying our monthly rental of RM175 for a one-bedroom flat. There
are five children in my family. Four are schooling and my youngest sister is only five years old. My
family finds it difficult to pay the school fees as well as to buy books and uniforms for all the children.

Moreover, I would like to bring to your attention the background of my education. I have been

doing well in my studies. In both primary and secondary school, I was the top student from Year 1 until
Form Five. I get my secondary education at SM (P) Methodist and I passed the Malaysian Certificate of
Education (SPM) with flying colour last year. I got 10As and 1B with 4A+, 5A and 1B. With this, I
enclose a copy of my report card and a letter of recommendation by the principal of my school for your
reference.

In addition to focusing on my studies full-time, I am also involved in a number of co-curricular

activities in my school. I was active in sports, clubs and uniformed body and was considered as a
responsible and dedicated leader. I led and organised many activities for the school clubs so I am
confident that I can be an asset for an organisation. During school breaks, I was involved in a physician
shadowing program called medical mentorship. In addition, I currently also serve in our community as a
volunteer at Hospital Kuala Lumpur. I am very familiar with and comfortable in clinical settings. I also
hold down a part-time job as a worker at a private clinic where I have an opportunity to learn valuable
skills that will help me in my career while earning money to fund my education.

I have represented my school up to state level in Robotics Competitions which was held at

University of Science, Malaysia. I have won numerous prizes over the last few years. In the competition
last year, I was awarded as an Innovative Students of the Year.
