based Wind farms for Power system frequency regulation AbstractAs doubly fed induction generators (DFIGs) are connected to the power system by the converters which decouple the rotor speed and the grid frequency, high penetration of DFIG based wind farms may cause the lack of power system equivalent rotation inertia and primary frequency control contribution. In order to improve the DFIGs contribution to system frequency regulation, this paper presents a new integrated frequency control strategy combining the inertial control and pitch angle control. With the proposed control strategy, DFIGs will release kinetic energy to support the power system inertia and make use of reserved capacity to participate the long-term frequency control. A power system including synchronous generators and DFIG-based wind farm is modeled in MATLAB/Simulink and the control strategy is validated in simulation studies. The results show that DFIGs with proposed control strategy can provide effective inertia support and reduce the static error of post-disturbance grid frequency.
2. Stability Enhancement of Wind
Power System by using Energy Capacitor System AbstractThis paper presents Permanent Magnet Synchronous generator (PMSG) based a variable speed wind turbine systems including energy capacitor system (ECS). The ECS is the combination of electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) known as super capacitor and power electronic devices for wind power application with its detailed modeling and control strategy which can supply smooth electrical power to the power grid and makes the system better stable and reliable. As generated power from wind fluctuates randomly, the objective of this control system is to select a line power reference level and to follow the reference level by absorbing or providing active power to or from ECS to smooth output power fluctuation penetrated to the grid and to keep the wind farm terminal voltage at a desired level by supplying necessary reactive power. The performance of the proposed system is investigated by simulation analysis.
3. Over-Voltage Mitigation Control
Strategies for Distribution System with High PV Penetration AbstractThis paper proposes a voltage-control strategy for the distribution system with high photovoltaic (PV) penetration to reduce the voltage rise and comply with the voltage regulation limits. The control strategy can lower feed-in active-power curtailment of the PV systems simultaneously to solve the overvoltage problem. The proposed voltage-control strategy is realized by managing the transformer on-load tap changer (OLTC), the energy storage system (ESS), and real and reactive power control of the PV inverters. Furthermore, to optimize capacities of the ESS and the PV inverters, a two-level optimization procedure based on particle swam optimization (PSO) and dynamic programming (DP) is proposed. To verify the feasibility of the proposed strategy, real data of PV power generation and load profile are used to analyze the effectiveness of the proposed method. In addition, comparisons are made for the proposed method and the reference method. The simulated numerical results reveal that the proposed strategy can provide more effective voltage-control and increase economic benefits, as compared with the reference method.
